Figure 1 is a'perspective view of my invention, attached to a standard.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section.
Figure 3 is a portion of standard and socket separated.
Fig'. 1. A is the whip-socket; B, standard to which the socket is attached; C, screw in standard; 1), elastic band; E, spring-catch.
Fig. 2. A whip-socket; 13 standard; 0 0, screws in standard, by which the socket is secured; D elastic band; E, spring-catch; d, screw for securing the lower ends of sections of socket together, and to bottom piece, h 0 nut on Screw d g g" g, springs connecting the lower ends of sections of socket.
Fig. 3. A, portion of whip-socket; B portion of standard O screw in standard; E spring-catch sliding on screws 0 having apin on the lower end which Operation.
The whip-socket being made in sections, connected at the bottom by Springs or hinges, and held together at the top by an elastic band, and secured to the carriage, as herein set forth and described, its operation may be noted The handle of the whip being pushed into the socket, the sections separate from each other sufliciently to permit it to enter, and it'will be held securely byth'e elasticity of the band D.
In this invention I do not claim any device previously invented or patented for whip-socket; but
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- nected together at the bottom by springs or hinges, and held'together at the top by an elastic band, as herein set forth and describe-d.
