IMIPROVENEENT IN WHIP-SOCKETS.

To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, LOUIS J. PARSONS, of New Bedford, in the county of Bristol, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and improved Whip-Socket; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. I

My invention consists in making a whip-socket in longitudinal sections, connected at their lower ends to each other, or to a bottom piece, by springs, hinges, or any practical device, and held together at the top by an elastic band.

Figure 1 is a'perspective view of my invention, attached to a standard.

Figure 2 is a longitudinal section.

Figure 3 is a portion of standard and socket separated.

The whip-socket being made in sections, connected at the bottom by Springs or hinges, and held together at the top by an elastic band, and secured to the carriage, as herein set forth and described, its operation may be noted The handle of the whip being pushed into the socket, the sections separate from each other sufliciently to permit it to enter, and it'will be held securely byth'e elasticity of the band D.

In this invention I do not claim any device previously invented or patented for whip-socket; but

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- nected together at the bottom by springs or hinges, and held'together at the top by an elastic band, as herein set forth and describe-d.
