Be it known that I, DAN P. FOSTER, of Waltham, iu the county of Middlesex, and State ofMassachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in BitfStocks; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specication, and to lthe letters of reference marked thereon, like letters indieating like parts wherever lthey occur.
Tofenable others skilled in the art to construct and 'use my invention, I' will proceed to describe it.
v Myinvention relates to improvements in bit-stocks. In the `drawings Figure 1' is a longitudinal vertical section. Figure 2 is a side view of the lower end of the bitstock.
Figure 3is a view of the parts used in forming the joint 4or swivel in the head.
Figuret is a frontview of one of these parts, and
Figure 5 is an end view of the devicefor clamping and holding the bit.
`I make my bit-stock in the. usual form. The upper end A of the tubeor wire of which it is made, Ipro- Vide with a projection b, and around this end Ifit loosely two pieces, B C, which 'have a recess C, into which the projection b enters, and iits as shown in g.
1. One of these pieces, O, I provide with a projection. (l, which fits into a recess in the other piece B. The
top of the two pieces, B C, when brought together around the 'end A of the bit-stock, fits into a recess of the head D. When brought together in this manner I fasten them by means of the screw e, as shown in fig. 1, and in this way` secure a joint or swivel within the head of my `bit-stock. y
vBy this arrangement -I am enabled tomake'a cheap and simple bit-stock, with a joint or swivel'in the head. Having thus described my invention, What I claim is- I Securing the head D to the stock A, byfmeans of the tubular pieces B O, constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as described. l
