IMPROVED BOOT AND SHOE-HEELS.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that we, JON W. TULL and GEORGE STEVENSON, of Zionsville, in the county of Boone, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boot and ShoesHeeIs; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the Setters of reference marked thereon, which form a. part of this specification, and in whichl Figure 1 represents a section,

The novelty of this invention consists in the peculiar manner of securing an India-rubber heel to boots or shoes, substantially as hereinafter set forth.
To enable others skilled in the art to which our invention a'ppertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.

A represents au India-rubber heel, which is made concave on its upper side.
B represents a leather or metal plate, which is made in the shape of the heel, but a little larger than th'e upper part, thus forming a flange, C, aroundith'e heel when secured to the plate B. The object of this Hangs or projection is to enable the heel to be iinally secured to the boot or shoe by means of pegs or thread.
The plate B is cut out in the centre, in the shape ofthe heel, and perforated with holes between the inner and outer edges, as represented in fig. 2, and is then pressed in a concave shape, as represented in iig. 3.
Theconcave part of the heel A being heated to a melted state,you press the plate B in the melted gum, which causes the gum to pass through the perforations made in the plate B, running together as it passes through,and forming a thickness on the upper side ofthe plate Bsulicient to secure the plate to the heel.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent., is-
The employment of an India-rubber heel for boots or shoes, when used in combination with a leather or metalplate, the said heeI and plate being secured together substantially in the manner herein described.
