"SLIP FOR PILLOWS, BoLsTERs. AND CUSHIONS.
'Specification of Letters Patent;
l'atented (lune 19, 1906.
Application filed February 2'7, 1906- Serial No. 303,176-
lb on whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDERrcK QOAKLEY, a subject of the King of Great Britaln, residing at 107 High street, Holywood, County Down, Ireland, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Slip for Pillows, Bolsters, and Cushions, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to slips or cases for pillows, bolsters, and cushions.
Under my invention I make the slip open at one side and I attach to both sides of the opening a number of bands. Preferably in the case of a pillow-slip I have three or four bands. If there are fourbands, two of them would be attached to one side 01' the opening and two of them to the other side, and the bands are carried across to the opposite side of the slip or case and secured at the interior thereof. The bands being merelyfastened at their ends can be made to pass over and under the pillow or bolster, when it is inserted in the opening of the case, so as to hold it firmly in position within the case. Two of the bands may be passed under the pillow or bolster and two over.
In order that my said invention may be properly understood, I have hereunto appended an explanatory sheet of drawin s, which shows by way of example a pillow-sIi as made in accordance with my invention.
On the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective plan view of the pillow-slip with the open end turned back to show the interior. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the pillow-slip, showing the bands 0 c therein. Fig. 3 1s a perspective sketch showing how the pillow is fitted between the bands. The front part of the case is partially torn away, so as to show the pillow. Fig. 4 is a pers ective View of another form of pillow-case, s owing how the pillow is placed between the bands. A portion of one end of the pillow-case is partially torn away, so as to show the illow. Fig. 5 shows a erspective sketch of my invention as applied to a bolster-case.
In carrying out my invention I make the slip a open at one side I) for the insertion of the usual pillow g, and I attach, by means of sewing or the like, to the interiorv thereof four bands, two ofwhich, c c, are secured, by means of sewing or the like (Z, to one side f of the opening, while the other two, a c, are secured m a similar manner to the other side f. The inner ends of the bands 0 c c c are also secured by sewing or the like (Z to the bottom of the slip a. By merely fastening the bands 0 c c c to the top and bottomof the case a as.
above described the pillow when inserted can be held securely in position by passing it under the bands 0 and c in the manner shown at Fig. 3. The arrangement is such that while the bands 0 c c a hold the pillow securely in lace they also tendto close the opening I) o the case a.
The pillow-case (1, shown at Fig. 4, is made open at each end, and the bands 0 c, of which two are shown, are laced longitudinally of the pillow-case a, and are attached by sewing d to the top and bottom of the pillow-case. The pillow 9 when insertedin the pillow-case a lies under the band 0 and above the band 0.
The bolster-case a (shown at Fig. 5) is open at each end and is provided wlth two bands 0 c, secured to the ends of the case. by sewing or the like d. The bolster (not shown in the view) when inserted into its case a lies under the band 0 and above the band 0.
In Figs. 4 and 5 the bands 0 c besides retaining the pillow or bolster in place in their respective cases tend to close the openings at the ends thereof. Any suitable number of bands can be used, andif three bands were used one band would be arranged intermediate of the other two and be secured to the one side of the case, while the other two would be secured to the opposite side of the case. The pillow, bolster, or cushion is slipped into the case between the internal bands, so'that said bands pass over and under the pillow, bolster, or cushion, as will be readily apparent to those skilled in this art.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A slip for pillows, bolsters, or cushions, having internal bands secured at their ends to the top and bottom thereof for the purpose of retaining the pillow, bolster, or cushion in place when'inserted in the slip, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a case for V pillows, bolsters, or cushions of internal bands securedto the case at their ends, said bands engaging opposite sides of the pillow and secured at their ends to the top and bottom of the case, substantially as described.
3. The combination with a case for pillows, bolsters, or cushions of two internal bands secured at their ends to the top and bottom of the case one adapted topass over bands being adapted to pass over the pillow the pillow or cushion and the other under and the other under said pillow. 10 said pillow or cushion substantially as de- In testimony whereof I aflix my signature scribed. in presence of two witnesses.
4. The combination of a casefor pillows W FREDERICK COAKLEY. having an open end, of two internal bands's'e- Witnesses: cured on opposite sides of said open end and JAMES FITGHIE, Jr., also at the other end of said case, one of said SAML. E. FITOHIE.
