Application led August 5, 1918. Serial No. 248,386.

Be it known that I, J Pnns'roN HOGKING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kenosha, in the county of Kenosha and State of Vfisconsin, have invented certain new `and useful Improvements in Photograph-Containers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to foldable phototograph containers.

The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character capable `ofrbeing V folded to iccupy a small space and which combines in a single article, an identica'- tion card, a photograph holder, anda container for private papers.

Another object is to provide a case of this class which while effectively protecting its contents, may be cheaply manufactured and may he carried in a vest or coat pocket `of the owner occupying a minimum amount of space and holding a maximum number of photographs and other material to be carried.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and Claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the embodiment illustrated, a foldable strip 1 preferably composed of khaki covered canvas is shown, which may be of any desired length according to the number of A photographs to be mounted therein and of any width to correspond to the height of the photograph to be protected and carried thereby. As shown, the strip l is. creased transversely at 2, the creases being spaced longitudinally a distance corresponding substantially to the widths of the photographs -to be mounted On each of the panels 3 formed by the creasing. Six of these panels are here shown, one end panel 3 having attached thereto a flap 6 with a fastening element 7 shown in the form of a snap fastener socket, while the other end panel has an extension flap 8 equipped on lthe face thereof exposed to that which carries the fastener 7 with a cooperating fastener member 9 shown in the form of a snap fastener stud. which is arranged adjacent the connection of flap 8 with the panel .8 so that when the device is vin folded position, the snap Vfastener 7 will he positioned to engage thestud `9 `to hold the parts in closed folded position. The panel 3 to which `the flap 8 is attached is .provided at its opposed ends with end flaps -11 vcreased at 12 to be folded inward in a manner presently to be described. A

Each of the panels 3 is provided at its corners with diagonally extending slits 4;

through which the corners of the photographs to be mounted therein are designed to pass in a well known manner. Similar slits 5 are arranged at points spaced inwardly from the slits t and parallel therewith to receive the cards or smaller photographs which may be desired to mount in the panels.

The flap 6 as shown in Fig. 2 is preferably provided on its outer face with the initials U. S, A. and linesl for the name and address of the owner, as this device is primarily nten'ded for use by soldiers and sailors for carrying and protecting photographs of their friends, and relatives. When the strip l is folded on the creases 2, one panel being extended in one direction and the next in the opposite direction as shown in Fig. 3, these panels will all be superposed and positioned on the inner face of the panel 3 which carries flap 8 as is shown clearly in Fig. 3 so that it will be obvious that photographs may be mounted on both faces of the panels so as to carry as many as possible within a small amount of space. After this strip has been so folded the end flaps ll are folded downwardly over the folded panels, flap 8 is folded over the end flaps, and then flap 6 iS folded over flap 8 and the snap fastener 7 engaged with its cooperating element 9 and the container will be securely held in closed position, and its contents protected against being soiled or otherwise injured.

This panel 3 which carries flap 8 may also be used for carrying private papers which will be securely retained when the device is in folded position shown in Fig. 3 and the iiaps thereof lapped and secured in the manner above described. Should the container become lost or misplaced it may be readily identified by the identification card by the name of the owner which is placed on the outside of flap 6.

It will thus be seen that the container constructed as above `described is compact in forni, may hold any desired number of photographs according to the length of strip l and may support photographs of diii'erent sizes on the saine panel.

While this device is described as preferably composed of khaki covered canvas, it is obvious that it may be composed of any suitable material, the outer covering being Water proof if found desirable to have it so.

The foregoing description and the dravvings have reference to What may be considered the preferred or approved form of my invention. It is to be understood that I may make such changes in construction and arrangement and combination of parts, materials, dimensions, etc., as may prove expedient and :tall Within the scope of the 30 claimed invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A one-piece device of the class described 35 comprising,` a strip creased transversely at longitudinally spaced intervals to provide ioldable panels, one end panel having,v an integral flap at its outer side edge and integral end flaps creased to fold inwardly, and an 40 integral side flap carried by the other end panel, the flaps carried by the side edges of the tWo end panels being' adapted to overlap and having coperating fastening elements on their opposed faces for securing 45 the container in folded position In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
