LOOSE-LEAF HOLDER.
rlhe objects ot our invention are to proride a holder tor loose leaves, cards,.blank checks, receipts and the lil-ze, which will securely retain the saine without their beino bound or secured together before being placed within the holder; to provide in such a holder means lor securing the contents therein without any perforations or 'other devices in or attached to the said contents; to provide such a device as shall be simple in operation and cheap to manufacture.
ille accomplish the above objects by means of the construction illustrated in the aecompanying drawings, which therefore become a part ol this application for Letters Patent, like characters oi" reference indicating like parts throughout the several views, and in which z- Figure l is a perspective view of our invention with the cover shown partially open, and the coments disclosed.
lfisj. is a perspective view showing` the @over closed.
Fig. perspective `fiew ot the retaining' s ,e a perspective view on an, enlarged scale, showirr;v the pockets adapted 'to receive the spring.
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional elevation slnnvingg` the spring in. place in the poel; is.
ln general our invention consists of a single piece oit material folded to form the back, cover, end, and a liap attached to said back.; two pieces of material secured to the inner surface ot said First piece ol material with portions oit each lelit nnattached to said first piece ol material, whereby said unattached nortions are loi-med into pockets to receive i portions of a bindingL spring.
T he first or outer piece oli material is :tolc ed to comprise a cover l, a back 2, an end 3 intermediate said cover and said back, and a Hap 4:.
Specification of Letters Patent. Pgpbmifed EQU 13 lkgjfh Application filed April 26, 1916.
Serial No. 93,730.
Said flap l is attached to the back 2 at the end thereof opposite said end 3, and is adapted to told over upon said back substantially parallel therewith and toward said end 3, as shown in Figs. l and 2.
U pon the inner surface ol said back secured a piece oil suitable material haring a portion G thereof' lett `iniattached to said bach, said portion G being disposed adjacent said flap el, thus forming a pocket between back 2 and piece 5 openingl transversely ot said bach and toward. said liap, as shown in Fig. l.
A similar piece et material 7 secured to the inner surface oll flap il, having an unattac d portion 8 forming a pocket between said material S and said flap l, said pocket openingu transversely oli said flap and toward said back, as shown in Fig. l.
it will be observed that the two said pockets open toward one another with a space between them, as shown in Fig. el, and a spring` is provided to be inserted within saifl pockets and to cause lap 4-jlto fold over with the transverse edge l0 thereof in uX'taposition with the inner surface of bach 2, as shown in Fig.
Said spring is constructed of one piece of iaterial having a bar ll adapted to be inserted into pocket 8 upon lap Ll, each end oit said bar being bent substantially normal thereto to torni arms 1Q, said arms being,` given a loop like bend 13 and thereby e1:- tended toward and beyond bar ll to form ends il, as shown in Fig. 3, said ends being;` adapted to be inserted into pocket 6 upon bach i2, the spring thus having the position shown in Figs. l and 5.
Cards l5, or any material to be contained within the holder may be :inserted between the edge l() ot llap l and the back 2, when the s; fing will hold said material securely in place, and the cover l may be inserted ieneath edge 10 of flap Ll thus securely closing the holder around the contents thereof, as shown in Fig. 2.
Our invention may be made of any size and constructed oi" any material deemed convenient and suitable lor a device of this character, and while we have illustrated and described a term of constructioi'i and arrangement oit parts found desirable in materializing our invention, we wish to include in this application for Letters Patent all mechanical equivalents and substitutes that may fairly be considered to come within the scope and purview of our invention as defined in the appended Claims.
Having disclosed our invention so that others skilled in the art may be enabled to construct and use saine, what we claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent iszl. A loose leaf holder comprising' a single piece of material folded to produce a cover7 a back, an end portion tl'ierebetween, and a flap upon that end of said back opposite said end portion, Said Hap being turned toward Said end portion and eubstantiallf.Y parallel to Said bach; a piece of material secured to the inner` surface of said back and having a portion thereof unattaehed to said back to forni a pocket betfveen :said material and said back adjacent said flap; a piece of material secured to the inner surface of said flap and havinga portion thereof unattaehed to Said flap to form a pocket between said material and said viap adjacent Said back; and a spring' having' one portion thereof adapted to be inserted into one of said pockets, and another portion thereof adapted to be inserted into the other of said pockets, thereby causing said flap to fold over upon said back with the transverse edge of said flap in juxtaposition to the inner surface of said back.
Q. fn a loose leaf holder, a back; an end seein-ed thereto; a cover secured to Said end; a flap secured to said back opposite said end, and adapted to fold over upon Said bach substantially parallel thereto and to- Ward said end; said back and said flap each having formed therein a pocket; and a spring eon'iprisinp a loop portion disposed intermediate Said flap and said back, an extension Within the pocket upon Said flap, and an extension Within the pocket upon Said back, and adapted to hold said flap in folded position. Y
ln v-,itnese that we elaini the foregoing' ae our own we hereunto place our signatures in. the presence of two witnesses in the eitj)v of l ortiand, County of ll/fultnoinah, State of Ureg'on, this th day of ll/ilareh, 1916.
