NEEDLE-CASE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 387,273, dated August 7, 1888.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE LEONARD TUR- NEY, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at London, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Books or Cases for Needles, (for which I have obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 10,368, dated July 25, 1887,) of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improved book or case for needles, which comprises an outer covering of any suitable material such as stiff paper-and is provided with the usual flaps, which can be folded up so as to form an en velope. YVithin the envelope Iattach apiece of suitable fabric-such as cloth or flannel-in which the needles are stuck. This fabric is fixed to the inside of the bottom flap of the envelope by means of the loop which is provided to receive the tongue of the upper or closing flap. This loop may be made of any suitable material-such as thin sheet metal-the ends of which are passed through the flap and through the fabric and then turned over the fabric, thereby securely holding it in position.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a needlecase constructed according to this invention and shown in its closed position. Fig. 2 is an elevation showing the same opened for the removal of the needles. Fig. 3 is an end view of the case,and

Fig. 4 is an isometric perspective view thereof. Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 2, but showing a flap (hereinafter described) closed.

a is the outer covering, which, as hereinbefore stated, can be made of stiff paper or other which the needles are stuck, and g is apiece of paper, which, as shown, is somewhat larger in size than the piece of fabric, f, so as to form the flaps h h h h. It may, however, be of the same size.

The partsf and g are secured to the cover a by means of the loop e,which,as shown,is made of metal and provided with the prongs i,which areinserted through the parts a f g and clinched on the inner side of the case.

WVhen it is required to close the case,the flaps h h are turned over the edges of the piece f, so as to protect the ends of the needles, as shown in Fig. 5, and then the case is closed.

Having now particularly described and as certained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what 1 claim is- A book or case for needles comprising the outer covering, at, having a tongue and loop for closing the case, the piece of fabric, f, for receiving the needlesand the intermediate piece of material, g, having the flaps h,for covering the edges of the piece of materialf,all the said parts being united and held in position by means of prongs formed upon the said loop, all substantially as described.
