Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JONAS LANGFELD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PORTE-MONNAIE.
.SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 575,522, dated January 19, 189'?.
Application ned nach 1o, 1896.
To all whom t may oon/cern:
Beit known that I, J ONAS LANGFELD, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have inven ted a new and useful Improvement in Porte-Monnaies, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a novel pocketbook of the order of a porte-monnaie adapted to carry a handkerchief therein, as will be hereinafter set forth.
Figures 1 and 2 represent perspective views of a porte-monnaie embodying my invention, the same being respectively in closed and opened conditions.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two Jiigures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a pocket-book or porte-monnaie which, excepting the feature of my invention applied thereto, is of usual construction.
B designates a pocket which is interposed between the receptacle C and the cover or back D, one side of said pocket being closed by the fold E and open at the other end, as at F, it being seen that said pocket B is adapted to receive a portionv of a handkerchief and permit the remaining portion to project outside of the same, where it may be readily seen, or the entire handkerchief may be placed in the pocket, in which case its presence therein is apparent at the end F.
The porte-monnaie is provided with a flap DX, continuous of the back D, said iiap folding over the pocket T, contacting with the side CX, so as to close the upper end of said pocket.
When the porte-1nonnaie is closed, the
Serial No. 582,564. (No model.)
handkerchief is held between the cover or back D and the side of the receptacle C, so that it is prevented from displacement and occupies such position that it may be readily seen by the carrier and is convenient of access by opening the porte-monnaie, in which case pressure is removed from thehandkerchief, and the latter may be removed from the open end or top, it being also seen that the porte-monnaie as such is not affected by the addition of the pocket B or the insertion of the handkerchief thereinto.
When the porte-monnaie is being carried or is opened, the handkerchief cannot drop from the same owing to the fold E, which virtually closes the end of the pocket where escape of the handkerchief is possible, especially when the porte-monnaie is carried with the end F above.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- A 1. A porte-monnaie havingahandkerchiefreceiving pocket, the same being open at its upper side, closed at one end and open at the other end, substantially as described.
2. A porte-monnaie having therein, an additional pocket, which is open at one end and upper side, and closed at the other end, forming a receptacle for a handkerchief which is exposed at said end, when the book is closed, and removable at said end and said upper side when the book is open, substantially as described.
