DE WITT GARRISON BROWN, OF AMERICAN FALLS, IDAHO.
LABEL-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 13, 1906.
Application filed July 26, 1905. Serial No. 271,324.
To all whmn it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DE WITT GARRISON BROWN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of American Falls, in the county of Oneida and State of Idaho, have invented a new and Improved Label-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to a device for holding labels, particularly gummed labels, used, for example, by druggists.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive devlce in which the labels may be effectually held in such a way as to permit of their convenient removal and also to avoid the curling or rolling of the labels due to the application of the gum to one surface thereof.
The invention resides in certain peculiar features of construction, which will be fully set forth hereinafter.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate as an example the preferred embodiment of my invention, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the invention in use, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder with the labels removed.
The holder is preferably formed of an integral length of wire, and it comprises a back formed of two sections a, connected at their upper ends by a U-shaped end member I), and the lower ends of the section a being bent outward and upward, forming the lower end fingers c, which terminate in bends 0, forming a shoulder for holding the labels in place. In inserting the labels into the holder a superimposed pile of labels should be slightly flexed, as indicated in Fig. 1, and inserted between the end sections 1) and c and against the back section a. It will also be seen that the end members 0 are longer than the end wall or member I), which causes the pile of labels to be feathered out at the lower end, permitting the labels to be conveniently grasped and withdrawn one at a time. The upper end member I) is bent slightly downward, so as to hold the labels compressed at their uper edges. This is shown clearly in Fig. 1. Preferably the device is hung from a vertical supportfor example, by means of screweyes (1, although this is not essential, it being possible to let the device lie on the counter or table, if desired.
Having thus described the preferred form of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A label-holder formed of an integral length of wire, having a back composed of two runs of wire, an end wall or member composed of a U-shaped section of the wire, connecting the two parts of the back, and an opposite end wall or member formedof the extremities of said length of wire and projecting at an angle from the runs forming the back.
2. A label-holder having a concave-curved back and two end members projecting laterally from the concave side of the back and respectively ada ted to engage and hold the ends of the labe s, one of the end members extending at an acute angle to the back and being longer than the other whereby to feather out the labels at said end.
3. A label-holder having a concave-curved back and two end members projecting laterally from the concave side of the back and respectively ada ted to engage and hold the ends of the labe s, one of the end members extending at an acute angle to the back and being longer than the other whereby to feather out the labels at said ends, and said longer end member having means forming a shoulder at its inner side ada ted to be engaged by the ends of the labe s for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DE WITT GARRISON BROWN.
Witnesses:
ROBERT 0. Jonas, RAY E. SHRECK.
