PARCEL-HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM ARTHUR CRANE, acitizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Parcel-Holders and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andexact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked Ehereon, which form a part of this specificaion.

The object of this invention is to provide a durable and convenient receptacle or holder for mail matter and other light parcels, and adapted to be secured to a door, door-jamb, wall, partition, on other suitable structure where such parcels can be depositedby carriers, delivery clerks or others withouthaving to Wait at a door for some one to come and re ceive them.

The invention'consists in the improved par-i celholder and in the arrangement and combination of the parts thereof, as herein set forth and finally pointed out in the claims. Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in each of the figures where they occur, Figure 1 represents, in perspective, a holder embodying my improve, ment and showing a package of mail matter inserted therein. Fig. 2 represents, in front elevation, a modification of the spring-clamplng arm, shown in said Fig. 1, or, rather of the means for securing said armin position, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the latter.

In said drawings,Adesignates a back or it may be taken to represent a door, door-jamb, wall, partition or other convenient structure to which the spring-clamping arm B, is secured. Said partB is composed of springwire which is doubled to form two prongs separated more or less widely from and lying parallel with one another and connecting at their extremities with a support or base, as C, Fig. 1,or 0, Figs. 2 and 3, which are secured'to .the back by means of screws d, thereby forming aspring-actuated clamp, between which and the back parcels may readily be inserted and will be held b'y'means of the pressure exerted by said spring-clamping arm, as will be manifest.

In order to render the spring-action'of said clamping arm as effective as possible I form coils e andf (though the latter may be dispensed with) in each of the said prongs, the former being near the base and the latter, if employed, between the base and the top, as indicated in the drawings. I also bend the upper end of the arm outward as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, in order to facilitate the insertion of parcels in the holder, as will be understood.

In Fig. 1, as will be observed, the extremities of the prongs of the clamping arm are bent inward substantially at right angles, forming elbows, e, that connect with the support or base which is secured to the back,

while in Figs. 2 and 3, the said extremities I are again bent at right angles to form arms 0, the ends of which are formed into eyes, 61', to receive the fastening screws, (1, thus the clamping arm and base or support are formed from one piece of wire instead of'being in two parts as in the former case. It will be manifest, however, that the elbows, e, may be inserted directly into and secured to the back instead of into the base or support, as seen in Fig. 1, and so dispensing with said base if preferred. It will also be observed that the arms, 0, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3 are bent outward laterally so that when driving the screws the screw-driver will not impinge against the coils or body of the clamping arm. It will further be observed that the normal pressure of the clamping arm, at the upper end is slightly against the back, as indicated in Fig. 3.

Having thus described my invention,what I claim is-- *1. The improved parcel holdercombining too of the aforesaid coils and the upper end of said clamping arm, as described and for the purposes set forth.

2. In a parcel holder, of the character described, the combination of a spring-actuated clamping arm composed of a bent or doubled Wire having two prongs lying parallel with one another and having coils, c, elbows, e, arms, 0', and eyes, (1', arranged in relation to 1'0 one another as described, and means for securing the same to a suitable back or support, as and for the purposes set forth.
