Description
, UNITED STATES- GHESTER C. CLARK, OF BROWNWOOD,
PAPER-FILE.
T *XAS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 263,685, dated September 5, 1882.
Application filed January 20, 1882. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHESTER O. CLARK, a native-born citizen of the United States, residing at Brownwood, in the county of Brown and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card and Paper Files; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making'a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my invention, showing it attached to a suitable base, and Fig. 2 is a similar view detached therefrom. r
The present invention has relation to that classof devicesfor holdiugbills, papers, cards, and the like, in which are employed wire spring-clamps connected in pairs to a strip of wood or other material, between which and the clamps the bills, papers, or cards are held.
The invention has for its object to provide a simple, cheap, and effective wire clamp for the purpose above stated, that can be secured to a table, desk, wall, or other object, thereby dispensing with the strips of wood or other ma-- terial to which the wire clamps are usually connected, thus enabling it to be soldin the market ready for attachment to any object by screws or other simple fastenings. These objects I attain by the construction substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a suitable base, which may be a table, desk, or other object, to which the wire clamp 13 is secured. The clamp B isbent as shown, and at'its ends bent to form coiled springs a, which rest upon the surface of the object to which the clamp is attached, and not embedded therein, as heretofore, thereby giving in creased spring power to the clamp. At the point of termination of the inner sides of the ends of which are bent into eyes 0, by means i. of which the clamp B can be readily secured I to its base by screws or other similar fastenings. It should be noticed that the arms bare not onthe same vertical plane with the sides of the clamp, as is the case with the wire clamps used for holding books open.
Instead of the arms I) being on a line directly under the wire forming the sides of the clamp, they are to one side or on a different vertical plane, thereby enabling the arms I) at their ends to be connected or secured to its base, which otherwise could not be the'case.
The clamp B at its free end is bent, as shown, to form a thumb-piece, d, for convenience of raising it when it is required to withdraw any I of the papers or replace them.
This forms a very simple and convenient device for the purpose described, which can be manufactured at a trifling cost, and placed in the market ready forattaohment by the purchaser where required for use.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-.-
As an improved article of manufacture, the wire clamp B, bent, as shown, to form coiled springs a, shoulders e, lever-arms b, with eyes 0, and the thumb-piece 01, said lever-arms being on a different vertical plane than the sides of the clamp to enable it to be conveniently attached to a suitable base, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
CHESTER OADY CLARK.
