HOLDER FOR SPECTACLE-CASES.

To all whom it may concern,

Be it known that we, JOHN J. BLEIOH and JAMES F. SARRATT, citizens of the United States, residing at Paducah, in the county of McOracken and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Holder for Spectaole-Cases, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to improvements in holders for spectacle-cases; and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a spectacle-case, showin g our improved holder applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the blank.

The spectacle-case A is of the usual or any preferred construction, and our improved holder B is applied thereto near the upper end of the same.

Our improved holder consists of a band C, of any suitable material, preferably, however, of sheet metal, provided at one end with a trancverse slot D. The other end of the band is provided With a tongue E, which is adapted, when the band is applied to the spectacle-case, to be inserted through the slot D and then doubled on itself, as shown most clearly in Fig.2, so as to secure the band around the case.

At about its central portion the band is provided with a lateral tongue F, which is provided at its end with a spur or point G, adapted to be driven into the spectacle-case. The tongue F is further provided on its outer side with the perforated lugs H, which are struck up out of the blank, as will be understood on reference to Fig. 3. The corners of the blank, which are formed by striking up the lugs H, are bent downward to form the spurs or teeth I, which are adapted to be driven into the spectacle-case to aid in securing the band thereto.

The lugs 11 and tongue F form one half of a clasp, the other half being formed by a plat-e J, which is provided with the depending lugs K at its side edges, and through the said lugs and the lugs 11 a pivot-pin L is passed, a spring M being coiled around the casein the manner shown and described, and

the case is then placed in the pocket with the clasp engaging the edge of the pocket, as will be readily understood.

Vhile we have described the device as applied to a spectacle-case, it will be readily understood, of course, that it may be used to secure papers, pencils, or other small articles and prevent the same slipping from the pocket without involving a departure from the invention.

The device is very simple in its construction, and when applied to a spectacle-case or other article will effectually secure the same. The points or spurs prevent the band slipping upon the case, while the tongue-and-slot fastening permits the band to be securely clamped around cases or bundles of various thicknesses.

By reference to Fig. 3 it will be seen that the device is constructed almost entirely of a single blank, so that the cost of the device and the time required to manufacture the same are considerably lessened.

Having thus described our invention,what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The blank for a spectacle-case holder having a transverse slot at one end and a tongue at the other end and provided at an intermediate point with the lateral arm F, having the spur G and the perforated lugs H, and the spurs I on the edge of the blank adjacent to the said arm F, as set forth.

2. The combination of the band having the transverse slot at one end and the tongue at its other end adapted to engage said slot and having a lateral arm F, and the plate J, pivotally mounted on the said arm F and forming a clasp therewith, as set forth.
