Description
JOSEPH HENRY SOHAAF, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY;
WIN KER-BRAGE CLIP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 28, 1908.
Application filed October 24, 1907. Serial No. 398,954.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH HENRY SoHAAF, of Louisville, in the county of J efferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Winker-Brace Clips; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in harness bridles, andmore particularly to means for connecting braces to the winkers, the object of the invention being to provide simple and efiicient means for effectually securing the winker braces to the Winkers and to so construct such means that they shall be cheap to manufacture,
easy of application, strong and durable and attractive in appearance.
With this object in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a view of a winker and its brace showing the application of my invention thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional view. Fig. 3 a view of the blank from which the clip is made. Fig. '4 is a view of a blank from which a slightly modified form .of clip is made, and Fig. 5 is a view illustrating the application of the clip to a round strap or brace.
1 represents a winker, such as used on harness bridles, and 2 the brace for holding the same in position. The brace 2 is rigidly secured to the winker, preferably in proximity to the upper, outer corner thereof, by means of my improved clip 3.
The clip 3 is preferably constructed of sheet metal or other sheet material capable of being bent or formed into a clip. In constructing this clip I'first make a blank, such as shown in Fig. 3. This blank comprises a portion 4 from one end of which an arm or member 5 projects at right angles. In proximity to the arm or member 5,; another arm or member 6 projects fromythe portion 4 of the blank so as to be disposed substantially parallel with the arm or member 5. These arms or members preferably rivets.
have an ornamental configuration so as to add to the attractiveness of the clip. One end of the portion 4 of the device, under the arm or member 5, is notched as at 7 to receive a tongue 8 which projects from the other end of the portion 4 when the blank is bent as hereinafter described, and at the end of the tongue 8, a tooth 9 is provided for a purpose which will presently appear.
The blank is bent or folded on the lines a, b, c, d. When folded on these lines the portion 4 can be made to embrace the end of a winker brace or strap having a rectangular oross-seotion,the tongue 8 entering the notch 7 and overlapping one edge thereof and the tooth 9 (after having been bent at right angles to the tongue) is driven into the strap or brace, so as to secure the clip thereto. The arms or members 5--6 are then made to embrace the winker 1 and are secured thereto by means of one or more If desired that portion of the clip attached to the brace may be riveted to the latter in addition to being secured thereto by means, of the tooth 9.
In the form of clip made from the blank shown in Fig. 4 the notch 7, tongue 8 and tooth 9 are omitted, and both portions of the clip are riveted respectively to the winker and winker brace.
When a round strap is used for a brace the base portion 4 of the clip can be made to encircle the same and riveted thereto as shown in Fig. 5 ,the arms 56 being secured to the winker'in the same manner as before described.
Having fully describedmy invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is,
1. A clip comprising a body portion and two arms bothprojecting laterally from the same side of the body portion the other side 2. A clip comprising a base portion having a notch at one end and a tongue at the other end entering said notch, and two substanspecification in the presence of two subscribtially parallel arms integralll with and proing witnesses. jecting from one edge of t e ase portion, 7 said parallel arms coeperating to receive a JOSEPH HEN R1 SCHAAF 5 winker between them, and the base portion Witnesses:
adapted to receive a Winker brace. JACOB BITTEL,
In testimony whereof, I have signed this WM. E. MOAKLER.
