COMBINATION BRUSH AND CONIB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 792,013, dated June 13, 1905.
Application filed November 2l. 1904. Serial No. 233,749.
To r/,ZZ '11171/07111 Yit 7111/111/ cm1/cern.'
Be it known that I, CARL EDUARD FLEM* MING, manufacturer, a subject of the King of Saxony, residing at Schnheide, in the Kingdom of Saxony, in the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Brushes and Combs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an instrument consisting of a combination of a brush with a comb, especially serving for cleaning the hairs of horses, dogs, cats, or the like. It may be used also for industrial purposes-for 1example, for cleaning cloth, flax, and the ikc.
The object of my invention is to provide a combined brush and comb which may be casily manipulated and which may be applied with great energy without injury to the brush or to the thing worked upon. This object I attain bythe construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figures l and 2 are side views of the preferred form of my invention, and Fig. 3 a perspective view of the same.
av is the back of the brush, the under face a of which having the bristles j' is inclined. The upper part of the brush-back a is enlarged, so as to form a handle c. On the one side of the brush-back a and handle c a comb l) is secured by screws b', engaging in slots b2, so that the comb l) may be displaced in a vertical direction. The comb b is attached in such a manner that it forms an acute angle with the vertical middle axis I I.
On the other side of the brush-back (1 opposite to the comb l), a plate e, of metal or other suitable material, is secured by screws e', engaging into slots e2, so that the plate e may be displaced in a vertical direction. The purpose of this plate is to serve as an abutment to the bristles during the use of the brush. rIhe points of the bristles form a plane inclined to the comb b, so that the bristles on the side of the plate e are the longest, while the bristles on the side of the comb l) are the shortest,
Cn the one side of the handle c a band d is attached, serving as keeper for the thumb when using the brush.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
l. In a combined brush and comb, the combination of the brush-back enlarged to form a handle with a comb secured laterally to the brush so as to form an acute angle with the vertical middle axis, the bristles of the brush being arranged approximately parallel with the comb.
2. In a combined brush and comb, the combination oi' the brush-back enlarged to form a handle, a comb secured laterallyto the brush and a plate opposite to the comb and serving as abutment for the bristles.
3. In a combined brush and comb, the combination of the brush-back enlarged to form a handle, a comb secured laterally to the brush, a plate opposite to the comb and bristles between the plate and the comb and forming an inclined plane.
4. In a combined brush and comb, the combination of the brush-back enlarged .to form a handle, a keeper for the thumb secured to the handle and a comb secured laterally to the brush, so as to form an acute angle with the vertical middle axis.
5. In a combined brush and comb, the combination of the brush-back enlarged to form a handle, a keeper for the thumb secured to the handle, a comb attached laterally to the brush so as to form an acute angle with the vertical middle axis, means for securing and adjusting the comb, a plate opposite to the comb and serving as an abutment for the bristles, means for securing and adjusting the plate and bristles of different length between the plate and the comb, so that the points of the bristles Jform a plane inclined to the plate.
6. In a combined brush and comb, the combination of the brush-back enlarged to form a handle, a keeper for the thumb secured to the handle, a comb attached laterally to the brush so as to form an acute angle with the vertical middle axis, means for securing and r that the points of the bristles form a plane adjusting the comb, a plate opposite to the inclined to the plate. [o comb and serving as an abutment for the In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my bristles, means 'for securing and adjusting signature in the presence of two witnesses.
5 the plate and bristles of different length be- CARL EDUARD FLEMMING.
tween the plate and the comb, the shorter Vitnesses: ones being arranged next to the comb and EMIL SCHMIDT,
the longest next to the abutment-plate, so l PAUL VEINERT.
