THOMAS J. MGOLOSKEY, OF PRAlRIE DU CHIEN, WISCONSIN.
COMBINED BRUSH AND coma.
Application liled March 7,
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. MoOLosKEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Prairie du Ghien, in the county of Crawford .and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Combined Brush and Comb, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an im rovement in combined hair brushes and com s, and has for its object a simplified structure in which the brush and comb are combined and adapted either for individual use or combined use.
'The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in'which Fi ure 1 is a view 'in elevation of my combine comb and brush; Fig. 2 is a longitu.
dinal central section of the same, the comb.
being shown in elevation; and Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same. Referring to the drawings, my im roved hair brush. and comb com rises a han le porpreferred arrangement common in tion 1, suitably connecte to a back 2. The operative face of the back is provided with a suitable brush structure, preferably com rising tufts of bristles 3, secured in longitu 'nal and transverse rows in the, back. The bristles may be in any suitable number or any brush structures may be used for securing the-bristles in place. i
The back is longitudinally and centrally ooved at 4, the groove being preferably ovetailed in section. The comb comprises the usual toothed member 5, the back or holding edge 6 of which is dovetailed to slidably engage the dovetailed slot 4 in the back.
The teeth of the comb are preferably longer than the bristles 3, whereby the comb pro- Specification of Letters Patent.

jects slightly above the bristles in the assembled structure.
The combined comb and brush may be used together for the usual object, or the comb, due to its projection above the brush, may be used separately, or the comb may be removed from the groove 4 to permit independent use of the brush.
It will be noted that the structure provided is simple and inexpensive and readily adapted for the combined use of the two articles or for the independent use of either.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A combined comb and brush comprising a brush member including a handle, a back secured thereto, and bristles secured to the back, the back being formed-with a dovetailed slot arranged longitudinally and centrally thereof, and a comb having itsbackbar of dovetailed form in cross-section to fit within and engage said slot, the teeth of the comb bein of greater length than the bristles of the brus so as to project a portion of said teeth above the'operativc surface of the bris- 'tles, and the len th of the comb being approximately equa to the longitudinal dimen- 'sion of the bristle-surface, whereby the device may be used simultaneously as a brush and comb, and the material affected by the comb during any one operation is also acted upon by the bristles of the brush.
, In testimony whereof I allix'my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS J. MoOLOSKEY.
