COMBINED COMB AND BRUSH Filed June 16, 1953 Fig. 3
Fig. 5
Lou/'s Sra/'ano A INVENroR.
Patented Aug. 3, 1954 UNITED OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural refinements in combined combs and brushes, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of the character herein described wherein the brush may be quickly and easily shifted on the comb, from one end to the other, or completely removed therefrom, when so desired.
Some of the advantages of the invention reside in its simplicity of construction, in its efficient operation, and in its adaptability to economical manufacture.
With the above more important objects and features in view and such other objects and features as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is an elevational view of the invention;
Figure 2 is an underside planview thereof;
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the same;
Figure 4 is a sectional view, taken substantially in the plane of the line 4-4 in Figure l; and
Figure 5 is a sectional view, taken substantially in the plane of the line 5 5 in Figure l.
Like characters of reference are employed to designate like parts in the specification and throughout the several views.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the invention consists of a combined comb and brush which is designated generally by the reference character I and embodies in its construction a comb unit I2 and a brush unit I4.
The comb unit I2 consists of the usual back member IS with a row of teeth I8, 23, the teeth IB being spaced relatively far apart while the teeth are spaced close together, in the conventional manner.
It will be observed that the back member I6 of the comb is provided at the opposite sides thereof with longitudinally extending, grooved tracks 22 and is also provided adjacent the ends thereof with recesses 2li which communicate with the tracks 22, as shown.
The brush unit I4 includes a body 25 provided with a recess 2'1 accommodating a pair of complemental clamp members 2B which are pivotally connected together and to the body by a suitable hinge pin 28. The body is equipped with rows of bristles 30 which straddle the comb teeth I8.
The body 25 straddles the back member It and is equipped with opposing guides 32 which are slidable in the tracks 22, the clamp members 26 being urged in frictional engagement with the back member It of the comb I2 by means of a compression spring 34 which is interposed between a pair of upwardly projecting finger grip pieces 36 with which the members 25 are integrally formed.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that by simply pressing the linger grip pieces 36 together, the clamp members 26 may be disengaged from their frictional engagement with the back member I'G of the comb, so that the entire brush unit I4 may be freely slid longitudinally along the comb unit I2 from one end to the other selectively, depending on whether the coarse teeth I8 or the fine teeth 2t of the comb are to be utilized, and the clamp members 26 will snap into the recesses 24 adjacent the corresponding end of the back member I6 to lock the brush unit It to said back member IB at the selected end of the comb unit.
Moreover, by disengaging the clamp members 26 in the manner described, the brush unit Il may be slid off either end of the comb unit I2 and one unit utilized to clean the teeth or bristles, as the case may be, of the other.
From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modincations and equivalents may be resorted to, fa1ling within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
l. In combination, an elongated comb unit including a back member having teeth thereon and provided with a pair of longitudinally eX- tending grooves in opposite sides thereof, a brush unit including a brush back having bristles thereon on opposite sides of the comb unit and straddling said back member for movement along the same to position the brush unit at opposite ends of the comb unit, guides on said brush back slidable in said grooves to slidably guide the brush unit in its movement along said back meinber, pairs of opposite recesses in opposite sides of said back member adjacent opposite ends of the back member, and a pair of opposite clamp members pivoted on said brush unit in straddling relation to said back member and spring loaded to snap into said pairs oi recesses and lock the brush unit in position at opposite ends oi the comb unit.
