Patented May 4-, 1897.
NlTED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
MAX PROSKAUER, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
BRUSH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of' Letters Patent No. 581,919, dated May 4, 1897.
Application filed July 16, 1896. Serial No. 599,410. (No model.)
- To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MAX PROSKAUER, bank official, of Berlin, in the Empire of Germany, have invented Improvements in Brushes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to brushes, the object being to provide a construction of brush whereby the bristles may be thoroughly cleaned; and to accomplish this I construct the brush of two parts, one of which forms a back, while the other carries the bristles, the latter being in sections hinged together and connected with the former in a peculiar manner, all of which willbe fully hereinafter described.
The accompanying drawings illustrate one form of construction of the new brush, viz:
Figure 1 shows the same in condition ready for use, and Fig. 2 shows the brush opened out for the purpose of being cleaned.
The brush consists, essentially, of two parts a and b, which are arranged side by side and are connected together by means of a screwbolt 0. The upper part 1) consists of a number of cross-pieces f, which are arranged side by side, are connected together by means of hinges d, and serve to carry the bunches or tufts of bristles e. The first one, f, of these much space is obtained between the tufts of bristles as to allow of each separate tuft of bristles a being thoroughly cleaned.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent of the United States, is-- A brush consisting essentially of two parts, one of which is solid or rigid, while the other is for a portion of its length in sections hinged together, each of the sections carrying bristles, the said two parts being hinged together at one end and detachably connected at the other end, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set :my hand in presence of two witnesses.
MAX PROSKAUER.
