IMPROVEMENT IN COM BS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 205,349, dated June 25, 1878; application filed June 5, 1878.

To all whom "it may concern:

Be it known that I, MANUEL BUTRON, of Havana, Cuba, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combs, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specifioation, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 represents a side view of a comb embracing my invention. Fig. 2 is a crosssection thereof.

Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.

My invention consists in combining, with a comb, tufts of bristles or like materials, which are interposed between the teeth and terminate within the ends thereof, so that the operations of combing and brushing'the hair can be performed at one operation.

In the drawing, the letter A designates my comb, which is made of horn, hard rubber, or any other material suitable for the purpose.

The comb shown in the drawing has two sets of teeth of different fineness or size; but it may be made with teeth of the same size throughout its entire length.

Between the teeth a a of my comb I place tufts b, of bristles or other material of a similar nature, which are fastened in the back 0 of the comb by cement or any other similar means, said back being made of sufficient thickness to afford room for the insertion of the bristles. The bristles b may, however, be secured between the teeth a of the comb in any other suitable manner.

When the comb is used the teeth pass through the hair in the usual manner, and as the bristles I) come to bear on the hair the latter is pressed down smooth, the dust resting thereon is removed, and in fact the operations of combing and brushing thehair are performed simultaneously.

It -is obvious that the tufts of bristles orlike material can be made of different lengths, so that they come to bear upon the hair with more or less force during the operation of using the comb.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination, with a comb, of tufts of bristles or like material interposed between the teeth of the comb, substantially in the manner and for the purpose shown and described.
