Sept. 16, 1952 G. P. FUENTES COMBINED COMB AND BRUSH Filed March 16, 1951 Gabiie/ I? Fuentes- U INVEN TOR.
BY I an! Patented Sept. 16, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT orrlcs COMBINED COMB AND BRUSH Gabriel P. Fuentes, Bronx, N. Y.
Application March 16, 1951, Serial No. 215,902
1 Claim.
This invention relates to combination comb and brush devices, and more particularly to a comb having a brush in the upper part, and which functions to brush the hair as it is combed.
It is a principal object of the invention to provide a toilet article of the character described for brushing and combing hair wherein the tufts or bristles of the comb are of graduated length and arranged on the comb whereby with less strokes a greater area of hair is brushed than would otherwise be the case. This isespecially advantageous where falling hair is encountered.
A further object of the invention is to provide a combination comb and brush article wherein the hair can be combed and only lightly brushed, and made so that the hair will lay down. after being combed but will not be otherwise disturbed. r The invention consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the parts as hereinafter described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings: 1
Figure 1 is an'elevational view of a comb and brush combination embodying the features of this invention;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the embodiment shown in Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a transverse cross sectional view of the comb and brush device and illustrating the varied length of the tufts of bristles and shown in position for application to the head of hair, a portion of the head and hair being shown in dotted lines.
Referring to the drawings in more detail, the comb and brush combination toilet article illustrated in the drawings, consists of a comb structure, generally designated 10, which may be made of any desired material, such as plastic, metal, or the like, and which comprises an elongated body I! having an oval cross-section and arcuate in the plane of its major axes, so that one longitudinal edge portion of the body is concave,
substantially in conformity with the curvature" of a persons head.
A row of teeth 14 of equal length extend from the concave edge portion of the body I2 and their free extremities define an arcuate path in the stated plane of the major axes. A suitable handle I6 is provided at one end of the body I2, as shown.
A plurality of arcuate rows of bristles 20 project from one side of the body I2, these rows of bristles being radially spaced from and concentric with the free ends of the teeth M. The bristles in each row are parallel to the minor axes of the body [2 and are longer than those in the next inner row, so that the free extremitiesof the bristle lie in any radial plane which isrperpendicular to the stated plane of the major axes and are disposed substantially in a straight line which intersects at an angle of approximately 45 degrees the stated major axes at a point inter-e approximately 45 degrees to the scalp, and the free end portions of the bristles 20 will simultaneously contact the hair, penetrating the same lightly as indicated at 26, so that a gentle brushing action will result which'will cause the hair to lie down evenly but be vigorously brushed.
While in the drawings the embodiment illustrated comprises a right handed comb and brush combination, it will be understood that either right or left handed comb and brush combinations may be made in accordance with this invention. I
Further, various modifications will occur to those skilled in the art and no limitation is intended by the foreging description and accompanying illustrated embodiment except as set forth in the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In a combined comb and brush, an elongated body having an oval cross-section and arcuate in the plane of the major axes thereof whereby one longitudinal edge portion of the body is concave, a row of teeth of equal length extending from the concave edge portion of said body and having free extremities defining an arcuate path in the plane of the stated major axes, and a plurality of arcuate rows of bristles projecting from one side of said body, said rows of bristles being radially spaced from and concentric with the free extremities of said teeth, the bristles in said rows being parallel to the minor axes of the j body and the bristles in each row being longer than those in the next inner row whereby free mediate the ends of the teeth 14. When the inextremities of the bristles lie inany radial plane perpendicular to the plane of said major axes and are disposed substantially in a straight line intersecting at an angle of approximately 45'degrees the stated major axes at a point intermediate the ends of said teeth.
