Be it known that 1, CHARLES H. OBEY, a resident of Galena, in the county of Jo Daviess and State of Illinois, have invented certain newandusefulImprovementsinOurrycombs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to an improved currycomb which is adapted for use in the cleaning of animals, the object of the invention being to provide a device of the above-men- [5 tioned character which will be extremely simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, light in weight, and which is exceedingly effective in use.

With this object in view the invention consists in the certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view illustrating my improvements. Fig.2 is a view in section of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the scrapers removed, and Fig. 4 is a view of a modified form of my invention.

1 represents an elongated handle split longitudinally, forming two sections 2 and 3 to receive between them at one end of the han-. die a double-edged scraper 4, which is made widest at its outer end and tapering or inclining toward its inner end. This scraper is of greater width than the body of the comb, so as to project above and below the same and, if desired, may be provided with a shank 11 as wide as the handle is thick and resting be- 40 tween the two parts thereof, thus adding materially to its strength. Blocks 5 are located on each side of the handle 1, and doubleedged scrapers 6 of similar shape to scrapers at are located at the outer sides of the blocks 5, and transverse nails or rods 8 are passed through the handle 1, blocks 5, and scrapers 4: and 6 and secure said parts together.

The scrapers have teeth on both edges,and, if desired, the teeth on one edge may be coarser than those on the other, and these teeth are of the usual shape,with their points somewhat rounded. The scrapers are provided with holes, preferably formed during the operation of stamping the scrapers,for the passage of the nails or other devices employed for holding the parts together.

Secured against the sides of the body of the comb are the fenders or blocks 12, which latter protect the sides of the body and also the scrapers from injury while cleaning the comb, which is usually done by striking the side of the comb violently against some object.

The blocks 5 are made with holes or perforations 7 extending entirely through them to permit air to pass through the device, and thus aid in preventing the hair from sticking and also assisting in carrying off the dust.

The handle 1 and blocks 5 are preferably composed of wood for the sake of lightness; but they may be constructed of metal or other material, and if found desirable the body may be cast in one piece, a centralslot being left for the insertion of the central scraper.

It will be seen that to use my invention it is simply necessary to grasp the free end of handle 1 and move the scrapers back and forth over the animals body.

The fact that the serrated edges are not parallel with the handle, but are wider at their outer ends, enables the entire serrated edges to be more conveniently held in contact with the hide of the animal, and by providing the body of the comb with holes the air-currents induced by the movements of the brush tend to prevent the hair and dust from sticking thereto, thus avoiding the constant cleaning of the device, as is the case with the combs in ordinary use.

Instead of constructing my improvements as above described I might make the same as shown in Fig. 4. In this form of my invention the handle 8 is provided on each side with a scraper 9, having teeth on their opposite side edges, the central scraper of the construction shown in Fig. 1 being dispensed with.

Various slight changes might be resorted to in the general form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I would have it understood that I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit-and scope of my invention. I

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure'by Letters Patent, is

1. A currycomb comprising a body portion, a handle projecting from one end thereof, and scrapers secured to the body portion parallel with the axis thereof, said scrapers having teeth projecting at right angles to the body portion and each of said scrapers made tapering from end to end and having its serrated edge projecting beyond the face of the head.

2. A currycomb comprising a handle and double-edged scrapers disposed parallel with the axis of the handle and secured to the respective sides thereof, said scrapers each having teeth projecting at right angles to the handle.

3. A'c'u'rrycomb comprising a handle split longitudinally to receive a scraper at one end thereof, blocks secured to the side faces of said handle and combs or scrapers secured to the s'id-e'edges of the blocks, said combs or scrapers disposed parallel with the longitudinal axis of the handle.

4:. Ina currycoinb, the combination with a handle splitlongitudinally to receiveascraper at one end, blocks at the sides of the handle,

scrapers secured to the side faces of the blocks, all of said scrapers made widest at their outer ends and tapering or inclined to their inner ends and provided with teeth or serrations above and below the handle and blocks.

5. In a currycomb, the combination with a sectional body provided with perforations and terminating at one end in a sectional handie, of a central and two side scrapers, the central scraper having a shank which extends throughout the length of the handle.
