JEWELERS DISPLAY-STAND.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 786,013, dated March 28, 1905.

Be it known that I, CHARLES F. DOMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicage, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jewelers Display-Stands; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap pertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to a novel construction in a jewelers display-stand particularly adapted for show-windows, the object being to provide a device of this kind which may be set up in various ways to most advantageously display goods of various kinds and which is very light and capable of being compactly packed for purposes of shipping; and it consists in the features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is a top plan view of a display-stand constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of same on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Figs. 3 and 4 are diagrammatic top plan views showing how the units of several stands may be relatively set up to form stands of different outlines. Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view showing my said display-stand folded ready for shipment.

My invention consists, essentially, in providing a knockdown stand which is composed of a number of units of similar shapes and various sizes, which are set u p one upon the other in various relative positions to form a stand of artistic appearance and ofiering to view various surfaces to be decorated with jewelry to be displayed in the most advantageous manner. To this end my said device consists, preferably, of a number of quarter-round hollow units A, B, C, and D, said unit A having a given radius and the remaining units having a radius substantially two, three, and four times that of said unit A, respectively. As before stated, each of said units is hollow and is open on one of its segmentalfaces, sothat in shipping same they may be mounted one Within the other, and thus occupy small space,

as shown in Fig. 5, and also to render the same as light as possible. The outer exposed faces of said units arecovered with black velvet or other fabric, forming a suitable background for the jewelry and which will permit the insertion of pins and other fastening devices. The said covering is omitted in the illustration, as it is a common expedient and forms no part of my invention. The lowermost and consequently larger units C and D are provided. interiorly adjacent the open side with shoulders E, on which display-plates F may be supported when said units C and D are inverted. as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, so that the open sides thereof are uppermost, said plates F being adapted for special purposes, such as the display of watches. When so inverted, the free edges of the walls of said units are also adapted to receive overhanging hooks G, upon which chains and necklaces or watches may be hung. The said unit B is preferably provided with a cushioned upper wall H, having recesses I for the reception of rings, while said unit A is preferably similarly provided with a cushioned upper wall J, in which hat and scarf pins are adapted to be stuck. The said units may obviously be varied in size and number to form sets, and a plurality of such sets may be relatively disposed to form stands of various forms, as semicircular, circular, and on ogee curves, &c., as desired and as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4. The various units may be set up concentrically or with one of their plane faces flush and their curved faces tangential with each other, as shown in Fig. 4: at K.

My said device is very eflicient and enables a very attractive display to be made with great ease and enables such display to be changed and varied to give different effects at very little expense of time.

I claim as my invention 1. A jewelers display-stand comprising in combination, a plurality of hollow units open on one side, said units being adapted to be disposed one above the other to present displaysurfaces of various shapes and sizes, said units being provided interiorly adjacent the open sides thereof with supports, and display-plates adapted to be inserted in said open sides, and rest upon said supports, said'display-plates being provided with devices adapted for displays of special forms of jewelry.

2. A jewelers display-stand, comprising in combination, a plurality of hollow units open on one side, said units being adapted to be disposed one above the other to present displaysurfaces of various shapes and sizes, said units being provided interiorly adjacent the open sides thereof with supports, and display-plates adapted to be inserted in said open sides and rest upon said supports, said display-plates being provided with devices adapted for displays of special forms of jewelry,and cushioned horizontal walls in the upper units provided with recesses for the reception of rings and adapted to receive pins and the like.

3. A jewelers display-stand comprising one or more sets of hollow units, each set comprising a plurality of hollow segmental receptacles of successively smaller radius open on one of their segmental faces and adapted to be mounted one upon the other to form display-surfaces of various sizes and contour, display-plates provided with devices adapted for the display CHARLES F.
