TOY BUILDING-BLOCKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Application filed February 14, 1882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. GRANDALL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toy Building-Blocks; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying sheet of drawings, making part of this specification.
This invention is in the nature of an improvement in toy building-blocks; and the invention consists in a series of comically-formed hollow blocks, whereby one may be received within the other, or be nested, in combination with a series of rectangular blocks proportioned to the several conical blocks, all constructed and arranged and combined in the manner hereinafter more particularly described. v
In the accompanying sheet of drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of blocks built up in form of tower; Fig. 2, a cross-section of blocks when nested; Fig. 3, a plan view of same; Fig. 4, detail or terminal block.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in the several figures.
The toy building-blocks which constitute this invention consist in a series of conical cylindrical hollow blocks, A,B, O, D, E, and F.
These blocks may be turned to any desired size, butto such dimensions as will permit the block B to be received within the block A, the block 0 to be received within the block B, the block D to be received within the block 0, and the block E to be received within the block D, so that the entire series of these cylindrical hollow blocks can ,be nested one within the other, and when so nested occupy'no greater space than that occupied by the block A. When each of these cylindrical blocks, however, is withdrawn from the other, rectangular blocks G, H, I, J, and K are constructed in proportions corresponding somewhat with the proportions of each of the conical blocks, and onto the upper end of the conical block A is placed the block G, acting as a cover for that block, and a foundation for the conical block B, which rests upon it, and on the top of the conical block B, when so placed, is laid the block H, onto which rests the block G, on the top of which block is placed the block I, supporting the block D, onto the top of which is placed the block J, as a foundation for the block E, upon which lastnamed block is placed the block K, upon which Patent No. 261,912, dated August 1, 1882.

Onto the outer surfaces of each of the conical blocks may be affixed suitable designs, and onto the edges of the rectangular blocks inscriptions may be placedeorresponding with the designs on the conical blocks; or letters of the alphabet, figures, words, and sentences may be employed for the purpose of instructing the user of the blocks; or verses descriptive of the structure may be used, calling the structure, for that purpose, Tower of Babel, (Jleopatras Needle, Washington Monument, or Light-House.

Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-'- 1. Toy building-blocks consisting of a series of conical blocks in combination with a series of rectangular blocks, substantially as is shown and described.
2. In a series of conical and rectangular blocks, the eombinationof a series of removable ornamental corner-blocks, substantially as is shown and described.
3. A series of hollow conical blocks, each block constructed to be, received within the other, substantially as is shown and described.
