4 Claims.
My invention relates generally to display fixtures. More particularly my invention is directed to an improved construction for display fixture units adapted for use in store windows or showcases for jewelry display purposes and has for one of its objects, the provision of a display unit of the character described, which shall be so constructed and arranged, that the same unit may be made to fit different sizes of windows or showcases, thus obviating the expense incurred in designing and constructing special units for each different size of window or showcase.
Another object of my invention is to provide a display fixture unit of the character described,- which shall comprise relatively few and simple parts, which shall be relatively-inexpensive to manufacture, which shall be easy to assemble and construct and which shall, at the same time, represent a general improvement in the art.
Still another object of m invention is to provide a display fixture unit of the character described, which shall be so constructed and arranged, that a pluralit of units may be disposed in different relative arrangements, so as to provide a number of novel effects by the use of only a single standard type of unit.
Other objects of my invention will hereinafter be pointed out or will become apparent from the description to follow.
In the accompanying drawing,
Fig. 1 is an elevational view, in perspective, of a display fixture unit, constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof, partly in cross-section;
Fig. 3 is a rear elevational view thereof;
' Fig. 4 is an end elevational view thereof, as seen from the righthand end of the Fig. 2 illustration;
Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view taken substantially along the line 5-5 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 6 is a cross-sectional view taken substantially along the line 66 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 7 is a perspective View of one of the parts of my display fixture unit shown in Fig. 1, disassembled therefrom;
Fig. 8 is a view similar to Fig. 2, but illustrating the manner of adjusting the unit to accommodate a larger size window or showcase; and
Fig. 9 is a top plan view, of reduced size, illustrating one method of arranging the units of my invention to produce a novel display effect.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, I have shown a display fixture unit constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention Both of said parts, A and B, may be made of any suitable material customarily used for jewelry display fixtures, such as for example, wood, the surface of which may be treated with flocking if desired. If preferred, the parts, A and B may be constructed of plastic material.
As clearly shown in the drawings, the part A comprises a member of stepped construction, which is generally the shape of a quadrant, having a pair of vertically disposed radial side walls Ill and ll, suitably joined at I01) and angularly disposed at an angle of degrees. A series of steps and platforms are provided, comprising the arcuate vertically disposed riser walls, I2, M and IS, a platform I1, overlying the top edges of the walls, H), H and I2, a platform 18 overlying portions of top edges of the walls 10, H and the top edge of the wall I 4, and a platform l9, overlying portions of the top edges of the walls H], II and the top edge of the wall IS. A bottom wall 20 is provided for the part A. Any suitable means may be employed for joining the walls and platforms that make up the part A, such as nailing or gluing in the well known manner.
The part B shown by itself in Fig. '7 is generally of rectangular shape, comprising a pair of walls 30 and 3|, vertically disposed, and of stepped construction as shown. The said end walls 33 and 3| are interconnected by horizontally disposed riser walls 33, 3A and 35, together with top or platform walls 36, 3'! and 38. The part B is open at the rear thereof and is provided with a bottom wall 39. It is noted that the platforms 3'! and 38 extend rearwardly of the rear walls 33 and 34 respectively to provide shelf members to store a reserve supply of stock as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 5. The walls and platforms of the part B may be joined in any suitable manner known to the art, such as by nailing or gluing.
A portion of the rounded walls [2, l4, l3, and the platforms l8 and 19 of the part A are cut out, adjacent to they side wall II, in such a. manner as to snugly slidably receive therein the part B in mating relationship as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. When thus assembled there is provided a display fixture unit, which is adapted for many uses in accordance with my invention.
Suitable leg members 50, may be provided on the bottom wall 39 of the part B, to support the extending portion of the said part B on the same level as that of the part A.
In use, articles of jewelry or the like to be dis- 'played may be placed on the platforms IT, IS
and I 9 of the part A, and 36, 3'! and 38 of the part B. If desired, a single unit, comprising the parts A and B, as illustrated in Figure 1 may be employed. If it is found that the showcase or window is of limited space, the part B of my display unit may be slidably moved inwardly to the position shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, which represents the innermostv position of the part B. If, on. the other hand, it is desired to use the same display unit in a larger window or showcase, the part B may be slidably moved outwardly in the direction of the arrow X in Fig. 8, in which case more display space on the part B is-provided. Fig. 8 illustrates the outermost position of the part B.
In accordance with my invention, the displa unit may be employed, if desired, to obtain a number of different ornamental effects. One such ornamental arrangement is shown in Fig, 9,
the steps and risers of said first member, the contour of said opening being such as to slidably receive an end portion of said second member therein, said second member substantially completely filling said opening, said sliding movement of said second member being in the direction of lines formed by th intersection of the said steps and risers of said second member.
2. A display fixture unit. according to claim 1 inv which the saidfirst member is made in the shape of a quadrant.
3. A display fixture unit according to claim 1 in which the said steps of said first and second members are at relatively different levels with the topmost step of said first member being higher than the topmost step of said second member.
4. A display fixture unit of the character described comprising a first member having a pair where two units comprising the parts A and B s duced. These illustrations of the uses to which I my display fixture unit may be put, are only some of the means for its effective use, a number of other artistic combinations and arrangements may be provided as can readily be understood from the example shown in Fig. 9 of, the drawings.
In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes, I have herein described the principle and operation of my invention, together with the construction which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof, but I desire to have it understood that the construction shown is only illustrative and that the invention can be carried out by other means. Also, while it is designed to use the various features and elements in the combination and relations described, some of these may be altered and others omitted without interfering with the more general results outlined, and the invention extends to such use.
Having described m invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A display fixture unit of the character described comprising a first member having a series of steps connected by risers upon which to display articles, said steps and risers being of arcuate contour, a second member having a series ofsteps connected by risers, upon which to display articles, the steps of said second member being substantially rectangular in contour, an opening in of vertically disposed end walls and a front wall, said end walls being radially disposed with respect to each other at an angle of substantially degrees, said front wall comprising a series of steps of arcuate contour connected by risers, whereb said series of steps have the shape of a quadrant, means for permanently joining said end walls to each other, means for permanently joining said front wall to said end walls, a second member comprising a pair of vertically disposed end walls and a front wall, said last named front wall comprising a series of steps connected by risers of substantially rectangular contour and each step of said second member being rectangular in shape, an opening in said front wall of said first member, the contour of said opening being such as to slidably receive therein an end portion of said second member, the steps of the front walls of said first and second members being relatively offset with respect to each other;
