Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, SAMUEL R. SLAY- MAKER and GEORGE M. MILLER, citizens of the United States, residing at Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Stock and Display Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to a combined stock and display device, such as is employed for retaining and displaying for sale, such small goods as locks and other articles that can be shown to advantage on a counter; and at the same time provide a receptacle in which the stock corresponding to the samples displayed on the front of the device can be stored, being both protected and at the same time convenient for the salesman.

The object of the invention is to provide a device of this class that shall be cheap, so

that it may be given away with special combinations or assortments of goods to the retail dealer, and at the same time be durable and elficient.

Another object of the invention is to so construct the device that it may be shipped in a knock-down condition and require no tools or pasting to set it up.

Still another object of the device is to produce an article of this class that shall be equally adaptable for standing upon a counter or hanging up, and which shall also serve as an advertising medium.

With these and other objects in view, our invention consists in certain construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter be described and claimed in the annexed specification, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this applica tion, and in which like figures of reference refer to corresponding parts in all of the views; but it is fully understood that while we have here described our invention as shown, that we do not confine ourselves to the exact design, as slight changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings :Figure 1, is a perspective view of the device showing the cover of the stock or packing receptacle open and the side broken away to expose the individual packages of goods, which may be numbered or otherwise marked to correspond to the samples attached to the display board. Fig. 2, is a side elevation of the same, showing the construction. Fig. 3, is a back view of the storage receptacle showing the attaching means for holding the display board. Fig. 1, is a top plan view of the display board.

Referring to the drawings, the device comprises a display board 1, which may be of any desired shape and size; and contain any desired advertising matter. To the face of said display board 1, are attached the samples of the goods to be sold, in this case being padlocks 2, which are held by the eyes or rings 8, attached to said board; the keys 4, being suspended by the hooks 5; and adjacent to each padlock is placed a number or other indicating device to correspond to the goods in stock. To the back of said display board 1, is detachably secured a stock receptacle 6, which is provided with a hinged cover 7, and within which is packed the individual packages 8, which are numbered to correspond to the numbers of the samples. Said stock receptacle 6, is detachably secured to the display board 1, by a pair of hooks 9, that are secured to the bottom of said receptacle 6, near the upper end thereof by the clamps or staples 10; said hooks 9, being adapted to engage a corresponding pair of eyes 11, which are secured to the back of the display board 1; the hooks being so arranged that when the display board 1, and the stock receptacle 6, are attached and in the erect position shown in Figs. 1, and 8, they cannot become disengaged until their lower ends are brought together; this and their further separating being prevented by a brace rod 12, which is in the form of a hook, and has one of its ends permanently hinged to the back of the display board, near the bottom thereof, and its hooked end retained in a detachable manner by an eye 13, secured to the back of the stock receptacle 6, near the bottom thereof. It will thus be seen that in shipment, the brace hook 12, may be disengaged and the display board 1, and stock receptacle 6, packed separately or back to back, and that when the device is as sembled, it may stand up or be hung up by the hole 1 1, in the top of the display board.

Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is In a device of the class described, a display board, means attached to the face of said board for securing samples thereon, a stock receptacle adapted to retain individual stock packages, said receptacle provided with a hinged cover, means for securing said board and said receptacle, back to back, comprising hooks secured to the receptacle, and eyes secured to said board and adapted to receive said hooks, and a brace having its ends secured to both said board and said receptacle, for retaining the same in an extended position.
