Be it known that I, ORLANDO A. Len, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Shade and Curtain Brackets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enableothers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to adjustable window shade and curtain supporting brackets; and it has for its object to provide a bracket ofthis class that is simple, light and durable in construction, easily adjusted to suit the width of the window-frame to which it is to be attached, and that may be readily knocked down or set up without the necessity of removing or inserting screws or other retaining means for that purpose.

The invention is fully described in the following specilication, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure l is a top plan view of my invention, showing the brackets as partly folded against the connecting-rods thereof. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the brackets in proper position for supporting a shade and curtain. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the invention, showing the brackets in folded position; and Fig. 4: is a side elevation of one of the brackets thereof.

Referring to the drawings, 1 and 2 represent the two adjustable connecting-rods of my invention, each of which has its inner end provided with suitable retaining-fingers 3, adapted to loosely encircle the body portion of the companion rod to permit of a sliding longitudinal adjustment thereof. The outer ends of the rods 1 and 2 are provided with slightlyraised longitudinallyeXtending portions 4, which terminate in the perpcndicularly-disposed lugs 5.

The brackets 6 6, which are mounted at the outer ends of the rods 1 and 2, are provided with apertures 7, as shown in Fig. 4, which ets are in set-up position to bear against the inner faces of the lugs 5, as shown in Fig. 2, thereby forming a support or brace for preventing a further outward movement of said brackets. hen the brackets are thus set up, they are rigidly braced against an inward movement by means of a roller-shade 9, which has its ends mounted in suitable bearings 10, provided in said brackets. Suitable seats 11 are provided in the outer portion of the brackets 6 for the reception of a pole (not shown) from which a curtain or other drapery may be suspended.

The rods 1 and 2 are retained against a window'frame by means of wood-screws 12, which pass through apertures 13, provided in said rods. The screws are setasufficient distance from the outer ends of said rods to adapt said ends to have a resilient bearing tendency against the inner rim of the openings 7 in said brackets, thereby enabling the brackets 6 to be retained in open position without the aid of the shade-roller 9.

By reason of the peculiar construction of my invention it will be apparent that the article if stamped from sheetsteel may be made with a very few operations, thereby greatly reducing the cost of manufacture of such articles and at the same time providing a curtain and shade support that is light, durable, and convenient.

It is obvious that such changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction of the parts as fairly fall within the scope of my invention may be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A shade-roller support, comprising adjustable connecting-rods having their outer ends raised and provided with lugs, brackets having openings provided therein through Which the raised ends of said rods are inserted, and tongues projecting outwardly from said brackets adapted to bear against the inner faces of the lugs on said rods and laterally brace said brackets.

2. Alixture of the class described, comprising adjustable connecting-rods having resilient outer end portions, raised longitudinally-extending portions provided at the outer ends of said rods and terminating in transverselyprojecting lugs, shade and curtain supporting brackets connected by said rods and having openings therein for receiving the raised portions of said rods, and tongues projecting from said brackets adapted to bear against said lugs and laterally brace said brackets.

3. A fixture of the class described, comprising adjustable connecting-rods having resilient outer end portions, brackets connected by said rods and having openings therein for receiving the outer ends of said rods, and tongues projecting from said brackets adjacent to said openings and adapted to bear against the ends of said rods projecting through the openings in said brackets and laterally brace said brackets in one direction.

4. A fixture of the class described, comprising connecting-rods, brackets connected by and having openings therein for receiving the outer ends of said rods. and tongues projecting from said bracket adapted to abut against said rods and brace said brackets against movement in one direction.

5. An article of manufacture stamped entirely from sheet metal and comprising adj ustable connecting-rods, brackets connected by and having receiving-openings for the outer ends of said rods, and means projecting laterally from said brackets adapted to bear against the ends of said rods.
