JERRY D. JOHNSTON PATENT @FFTCE.
, OF JONES, MICHIGAN.
SHADE-BRACKET AND CURTAIN-POLE SUPPORTER.
Application filed December Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 12, 1908.
8, 1906. Serial No. 346,907.
To all "whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JERRY D. JonNs'roN, acitizen of the United States, residing at Jones, in the county of Cass and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Shade-Brackets and Curtain Rod and Pole Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to combined shade brackets and curtain rod and pole supporters, and its primary object is to provide a device of this character which may be readily and quickly adjusted to support a curtain pole or rod at varying distances from a window frame or to receive a curtain rod of dill'erent lengths.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character stated which is simple, durable and el'licient, an d which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
WVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a combined shade bracket and curtain rod and pole supporter constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal section through the curtain rod socket. Fig. i is a view in end elevation, and Fig. 5 is a sec tion on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
My improved device comprises an attaching member A, a curtain rod socket B, an arm C which is adjustably mounted upon the attaching member and upon which the curtain rod socket is adjustably mounted, and a curtain pole supporting hook D which is removably secured to the curtain rod socket.
The attaching member A consists of two angle members 23 between the horizontal portions l5 of which the arm 0 is secured by means of a bolt 6 and a winged nut 7. The horizontal portion 5 is provided with downturned flanges 5 which engage the edges of the portion 4 and thereby prevent any independent relative movements of the members 2-3. The bolt 6 passes through an elongated opening 8 in the arm C, whereby the arm is mounted upon the attaching member for adjustment transversely of the plane thereof. The vertical portions .)10 of the angle members 23 are provided with perforations 11 to adapt the attaching member to be secured in applied position by means of screws or any other suitable fastening devices. The arm (1 has one of its ends formed to provide an enlarged head 12 adapted to be received by the curtain rod socket B, the arm C passing through a slot 13 extending longitudinally of the curtain rod socket. The end of the arm C is passed through the slot 13 into the socket B, after which said end is rolled on a suitable mandrel to provide the head 12. As the arm (1, passes through the slot 13, the curtain rod socket B is mounted upon the arm for ad justment longitudiiially of the plane of the attaching member A. The curtain pole hook .l) is provided with a downturncd end 14 adapted to be passed through an opening 15 located in the curtain rod socket B at a point adjacent one of its ends. If found desirable the curtain rod socket may be provided with two of the openings 15, as fully disclosed in Fig. 2 of the drawing, whereby two curtain pole hooks I) may be secured thereto. The portion 9 of the angle member 2 may be provided with an arm 16 formed with a slot 17 to receive one end of a shade roller.
In practice, two of my improved devices are used, one being at tached on each side of a window casing at a point adjacent its upper end. If it is desired to support a curtain rod, each end thereof is inserted in one end of each of the sockets B, ornaments 18 being secured to the other ends of the sockets to give them a neat and 'linished ap iearance. Inasmuch as the sockets may be adjusted longitudinally of the attaching members, it is possible to support rods of ditl'erent lengths. hen it is desired to support a curtain pole, two of the hooks l) are used, one being supported from each of the sockets B in the manner heretofore pointed out, and the ornaments 1S omitted. As the sockets B may be adjusted transversely of the plane of the attaching members, the curtain pole or curtain rod may be supported at varying distances from the window casing. The at taching members may or may not be provided with the arms 16.
It should be a parent from the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, that ll provide a single device by means of which a shade roller, a curtain rod or pole may be supported; that the same provides for the adjustment of the rod in the direction or aWay' from the WindoW casing, and that curtain rods of varying lengths may be supported.
Changes in the form, proportions and minor details of construction may be made Within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having fully described and illustrated my invention, What I claim is:
1. A device of the character set forth, comprising an attaching member provided With a shade roller supporting arm, an arm adjustably secured to said attaching member, said arm being provided With a head, a curtain rod socket adjustably mounted upon said arm, and a curtain pole su porting hook removably secured to said socket.
2. A device of the character set forth, com
prising an attaching member, an arm mountt
