To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, JOSEPH E. PETTI- JOHN and LORENZO D. STAFFORD, citizens of the United States, residing at Parsons, in the county of Labette and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Window Shade and Curtain Supports, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in adjustable supports for window shades and curtains adapted to be secured to the top of the window casing and adjusted to fit the length thereof, and also adapted to adjust the distance between the shade and curtain to the top of the window casing, and further adapted to be readily attached and detached from the window casing. Y

A further object of our invention is to provide a device of this character which shall be cheap in construct-ion, cheap to manufacture, and eflicient in its operation.

With these and other objects in view our invention consists in certain constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, the preferred form of which will be first described in connection with the accompanying drawings, and then the invention particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings wherein the same part is designated by the same reference numeral wherever it occurs, Figure 1 is a perspective view of our support showing the same applied to the top of a windowframe; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a detail side elevation of the window shade and curtain bracket with the bar to which it is attached shown in section, and Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 4, 4 of Fig. 1.

5 designates the central supporting plate provided with a. vertical slot 6 extending through the length of its body portion, and at its upper end is bent to form a hook portion 7 preferably adapted to engage the top of the window casing 9. At the lower end the plate 6 is bent at right angles to form an inwardly projecting portion 10, through which is threaded a set screw 12, preferably provided with a point 13 by means of which the plate may be tightly clamped at the top and bottom of the portion 9 of the window casing and firmly held. in position.

The supporting frame of our device comprises a pair of bars 14, 15, each of which is provided with a slot 16 for substantially its entire length. These bars 14 and 15 overlie each other with their slots in alinement, and the end of the bar 14 which, in the form shown, is the overlapping bar, is provided at its overlapping end with an opening, through which extends a thumb screw 17, said thumb screw engaging a nut having projecting lugs adapted to enter the slot 16 of the bar 15, to prevent the same from turnmg.

This construction is the same as shown at 33, 34 and 35, Fig. 4, and hereinafter described.

20 is a thumb screw extending through the slot 16 in the bar 14, and threaded into the underlying end of the bar 15. By this construction it will be seen that the total length of the bars 14 and 15 can be adjusted, and the bars held in adjusted position by tightening up the thumb screws 17 and 20. Pivoted to the ends of the bars 14 and 15, by means of the rivets 21, 21, are a pair of bars 22, 23. Preferably and as shown we insert between the ends of the bars 14, 15, and the ends of the bars 22 and 23 respectively the spacing washers 24, 24. The bars 22 and 23 are each longitudinally slotted for substantially their entire length, as shown at 25, 25, and 26, 27 are a pair of bars also slotted as shown at 28, which are adapted to be adjustably connected to the bars 22 and 23 by means of the pairs of tliumb screws 29, 30, 31 and 32 similarly constructed and connected as are the thumb screws 17 and 20 heretofore described. The bars 26 and 27 at their inner ends are adapted to overlap, and 33 is a thumb screw passing through openings in the overlapped ends of the bars through the slot 6, and engaging a threaded plate 34 on the back of the plate 5. Preferably and as shown the plate 34 has a projecting finger 35 extending into the slot 6 to prevent the rotation of the plate, and the inner surface of the plate 36 is preferably formed with ratchet teeth to engage similar ratchet teeth 37 on the back of the plate 5.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that we have provided a triangular frame whose length may be adjusted to fit various sizes of window casings, the frame being in the form of an isosceles triangle, and supported at its apex on the supporting plate 5. In order to firmly secure this frame in position we extend the ends of the bars 14 and 15 and bend them at right angles to form portions 38 adapted to extend around the sides of the window casing when the frame is in position to thread thumb screws 89 through these extensions, whereby the sides of the frame can be clamped to the sides of the window casing. In order to prevent the central portion of the triangular frame from sagging under the weight we preferably provide a hook 40 hung from the set screw 33, the inturned end 41 of the hook passing into. the slots in the overlapped portions of the bars 14 and 15.

Our curtain and shade bracket comprises a horizontal extending bar 42, provided with a downwardly and upwardly turned portion 43 in which a curtain pole can rest, and also provided witha downwardly extending arm 44 having an eye 45 in which a shade roller is journaled. The vertical portion 46 of the bracket is adapted to extend between the bars 14 and 22 on one end and between the bars 15 and 23 at the other end. In order to adjust the brackets upon the bars 14 and 15 we provide a thumb screw 47 which extends through the slot 16 in each bar and engages with the threaded opening in the portion 36 of the bracket.

It is to be noted that by having the triangular frame vertically adjustable on the supporting plate 5 the frame may be adjusted so as to provide a space between the curtain and the window casing for ventilating purposes, or the curtain may be caused to extend above the window casing.

WVe realize that considerable variation is possible in the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention, and we therefore do not intend to limit ourselves to the specific form shown and described.

Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. An adjustable window curtain support composed of a triangular frame, pairs of overlapping slotted bars forming the sides of said frame, set-screws extending through the slots whereby the length of the sides may be adjusted, a central support for the frame and curtain supports adjustably mounted on the lower side of the frame.

2. An adjustable window curtain support composed of a triangular frame, means for adjusting the length of each of the sides of said frame, a central support fcr said frame, means for securing said frame to a window casing, means for adjustably connecting said frame to said support in a vertical plane and means mounted on the frame for supporting a curtain.

3. An adjustable window curtain support composed of a triangular frame, means for adjusting the length of each side of said frame, a central support for said frame provided with a clamp adapted to be secured to the window casing, means for securing the apex of said frame to said support, a support for the lower member of said frame extending from'said securing means and engaging said lower member, and means mounted on the frame for supporting the curtain.

4. An adjustable window curtain support composed of a triangular frame, means for adjusting the length of each side of said frame, extensions extending rearwardly from the ends of said frame, a clamp adapted to be secured to the window casing.
