WINDOW-FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 1, 1914.
Application filed November 26, 1913. Serial No. 803,351.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD A. HATCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at fiwanton, in the county of Franklin and State of Vermont, have invented new and useful Improvements in Window-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to window-curtain and shade fixtures and more particularly to the class of adjustable hangers for window curtains and shades.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a hanger of this character in which a window curtain or a shade may be mounted at the window whereby it will properly hang therefrom, the hanger being adjustable, so as to hold curtains or shades of different sizes to properly fit the window.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a fixture of this character which is simple in construction, strong, durable, capable of quick adjustment, and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of a window fixture constructed in accordance with the invention applied to the window which is partly shown by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the fasteners thereof. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary edge view of the window frame showing one of the fasteners mounted therein, the frame being partly in section.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings by numerals the device comprises a supporting bar 5 preferably constructed from wood although it may be made from any other suitable ma terial, and is of uniform thickness and width throughout its length. The bar is adapted to be positioned across the outer face of the head of a window frame 6 as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings and is secured thereto by means of fasteners each comprising a single strand of wire 7 bent to form a double loop or eye 8 medially of its length and pointed spur terminals 9 at right angles to the plane of the loop, the said supports 9 being adapted to be driven into the side edges of the window frame 6 thereby securely fastening the bar 5 in position on the window frame.
Adj ustably connected to the bar 5 is a pair of pole brackets each comprising a single strand of wire 10 bent on itself to provide double limbs 11 twisted together at 12 for a portion of their length, the free ends of the limbs 11 being bent to form reversely positioned claws 13 for gripping engagement with the bar 5 thereby adjustably connecting said bracket to the latter. The connected ends of the limbs 11 of the bracket are further bent to form a pole engaging hook 14 in which rests the ordinary curtain pole.
Mounted upon the bar 5 is a pair of window shade holders or brackets each formed from a single strand of wire 15 bent to form double limbs 16 the ends of which are further bent to provide reversely disposed claws 17 which slidably engage the bars 5 for adjustably connecting the said bracket thereto. One bracket is formed with a hook 18 at its outer end and the other bracket with an eye 19 at its outer end to receive the ends of a curtain shade roller of the or dinary well-known construction, for the hanging of the same in position with respect to the window.
It is of course understood that the brackets for the pole and curtain shade are formed from relatively stiff wire so as to give the requisite rigidity thereto.
hat is claimed is The combination with a shade bracket supporting bar, of fasteners adjust-ably mounted thereon, each of said fasteners comprising a single strand of wire bent in,- termediate its length to form a double loop slidably embracing said bar, and terminating in-oppositely extending vertically disposed limbs, each of said limbs being bent rearwardly at right angles to the bar, and terminating in spurs disposed in parallelism with the longitudinal avis of the bar and adapted to be driven into the side edges of the window frame.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature A. M. MONET, M. MULLEN.
