L. H. ROBINSON VERTICAL ADJUSTER FOR SHADE AND CURTAIN HANGERS Filed Nov. 1925 N VEN TOR.

Patented Aug. 23, 1927.
uarreo STATES LULA H. ROBINSON, OF .DALLAS, TEXAS.
VERTICAL ADJUSTER FOR SHADE AND CURTAIN HANGERS.
Application filed November 28, 1925. Serial No. 71,904.
This invention relates to adjustable supports for window hangings such as shades, curtains, draperies and the like, and it refers more particularly to certain improvements in facilities for expeditiously adjusting these curtain supports upon the window without the necessity of dismantling or otherwise affecting the proper position of the support upon the window.
he invention further provides for the di'smo'unting of the support without affecting the permanency of the adjusting means of the support, which mayremain, if desired, in operative position upon the window after removal of the support.
lVith these and other objects and advanta 'es in view, the invention has particular reIerence to certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, which will become apparent as the description pro ceeds, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein;
Figure 1 represents a fragmentary view of the preferred form of support to be used with the invention, illustrating the manner of attaching the invention thereto.
Figure 2 is a view in perspective of Fig ure 1, although showing more in detail the manner of attachment.
Figure 3 is a detail view of the adjusting rod. v
Figure & is an end view of the vertical slide and rod holding means, the rod being in cross-section, and
Figure 5 shows the invention applied.
Continuing more in detail, attention is directed to Figure 5 of the drawings in which the reference character 1 denotes a horizontal support for any desired number of the usual extensible curtain rods, which latter are mounted upon projections 2, while the brackets 3 receive the ends of the shade roller, and which are horizontally movable along the slots a, as shown.
The enlarged ends of the rod 1, it will be observed, are further equipped with a series of spaced apertures 5 in addition to the slots 4-, more clearly illustrated in Figures 1. and 2, the purpose of which will be later made clear.
Now, the invention consists primarily of a T shaped track 6, an end view of which is shown in Figure 4:, adapted to be securely applied to either facing of the window, as the case may be, in such a manner as to receive a channeled slide 7. The track 6 is provided with a series of small, spaced notches 8 as shown, disposed either on the inside of the track or outside, with respect to the window.
The upper ends of the slides 7 are enlarged and punched to produce anumber of projections or lugs 9, as in Figure 2, which are received by the slots 4 to hold the rod 1 steady while an adjustment is being obtained. Upon the extreme upper end of this enlarged portion is provided a hinged plate,
forming a cover 10, having a depending lug 11 thereon, adapted to be received by one of the said series of apertures 5 to hold the rod from lateral slippage, while the lugs 9 prevent decentering of the rod.
In order to hold the cover in closed posi; tion upon the slide, a lip 12 is provided, having a slot 13 therein, which, when in the position illustrated in Figure 1, receives the clip 14. v
The slide 7 is further provided with opposed spring clips 15 as in Figures 1, 2 and 4, which are produced preferably by severingthe slide at the underside and bending forwardly in the manner shown. These clips maintain position of the rod 16, which latter is equipped with annular flanges 17 to prevent vertical displacement, and whereby the rod may be readily rotated. Upon the end of the rod is situated a. pin 18, curved substantially as shown, to permit the same to engage notch 19 in the slide 7 or one of the series of notches 8 in the track 6.
Thus it will be seen that while the support may be disposed at any convenient point upon the opening, it is required only to grasp the handle 20 at the lower end of the rod 16, and rotate the latter, whereupon the pin 18 will be disengaged from the notch in which it is disposed, and permit free movement of the slides 7 upon the tracks 6, to lower or raise the support as desired.
lVhile I have disclosed the nature of my invention and described an operative manner of constructing and using the same al though without attempting to set forth the various modifications which may be made in carrying out or embodying the same, it is understood that my invention is susceptible of modifications in construction and form without departing from the spirit thereof, and that my invention shall only be limited by the scope of the appended claims and the showing of the prior art.
What is claimed is:
1. In a horizontally and vertically adjustable shade and curtain support, a vertical notched member adapted to be secured to a Window i'i'rame; a channeled notched slide engaging said vertical member having an enlarged upper end provided with lugs on its face; means for effecting vertical adjustment between said vertical member and. channeled slide; a horizontal member adjustably engaged by said end of the channeled slide including slots to receive the lugs on the upper end of said slide, and means for supporting the end of a shade roller and curtain rod; a hinged plate on the upper end of the channeled slide and cooperating means on the plate and slide for fastening the plate over the horizontal memher for securing the horizontal. member between the slide and plate and. maintaining it in position.
2. In a horizontal and vertically adjustable shade and curtain support, a vertical notched member adapted to be secured to a Window frame; a channeled notched slide engaging said vertical member having an enlarged upper end provided with lugs on its face; a rotatable rod carried by said slide and vertical member provided With a knob at its lower end and having a curved pin at its upper end adapted to engage any of said notches. and designed to vertically adjustthe channeled slide with relation to the vertical member;- a horizontal member adjustably engaged by said upper end of the channeled slide including slots toreceivethe lugs on the upper end of said slide, a series of apertures between the slots, a bracket to receive the end of a shade roller adjustably mounted in one ofrsaid slots, and a projection for supporting the end of a curtain rod; a hinged plate on the upper end of the channeled slide provided with a lugadapted to engage any of the apertures in the horizontal member, a slot in the hin'gedplate, and a member on the upper end of the channel ed slide adapted to engage the slot in said plate and fasten the plate over the horizontal member securing it between the slide and plate and maintaining it in position.
In testimony whereol I affix my signature.
LULA H. ROBINSON.
