ADJUSTABLE WINDOW SHADE AND CURTAIN BRACKET Filed Feb, 9, 1945 J6 I I 9 INVENTOR.
ATTORNEYS Patented May 20, 1947 UNITED STATES TENT QFFHCE Walter W. lPye, Richmond, Va.
Application February 9, 1945, Serial No. 576,987
2 Claims. 1
The invention relates to window cover hangers, and more especially to permanent adjustable window shade and curtain brackets.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a bracket of this character, wherein draperies, curtains and shades of varying sizes can be hung with relation to a window casing or frame, the bracket being susceptible of permanent application to the latter, and thereby avoiding marring of the woodwork through constant changing of position of the brackets from time to time, where it becomes necessary through variations in the sizes of the coverings for the window.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a bracket of this character, wherein the construction thereof is novel and unique, it being adapted to retain the coverings in a positive fixed relation to the window, and close adjustments can be efiected in the hanging of such coverings, as the occasion may require.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a bracket of this character, wherein extended range of adjustment may be had thereby in its use, and can be used on old or new Woodwork, and remain permanently fitted thereto.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a bracket of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eiiicient in its purposes, strong, durable. neat and attractive in appearance, readily and easily adjusted to meet all requirements demanded thereof, and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is 'a fragmentary perspective view showing a bracket constructed in accordance with the invention in an applied position on a window casing or frame, with a portion of a shade roller in fitting relation thereto by full lines, while a curtain rod in its arrangement is shown by dotted lines.
Figure 2 is an elevation of the base of the bracket showing an altered curtain hanger from that in Figure 1 associated therewith.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken approximately on the line 33 of Figure 1 loqking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken approximately on the line 4-4 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is a side view of the shade hanger in released position for adjustment.
Figurefi is a perspective view of the curtain hanger shown in Figure 2 and detached.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing, in detail, A designates generally a portion of a window casing or frame, at the upper left-hand corner thereof, wh ch is of the ordinary well known construction, and to which is permanently attached a bracket constructed in accordance with the invention, it being one of a pair thereof, and comprises a substantially L.-shaped base member Ill, having a long horizontally disposed arm II, and a shorter vertically disposed arm I2. The arm I l is formed with opposed side edge flanges l3 and I 5, respectively, and the flange I3 is provided with notches l5 uniformly spaced apart in a longitudinal direction to effect rack teeth 16. The flanges i3 and 14 slidably receive the runner heel l! of a shade roller hanger it, which detachably accommodates the trunnion E9 of a shade roller 20, only a portion of the same being shown in Figures 1 and 4 of the drawing. This hanger I8 supports a pivoted double locking trigger 2|, which latches the trunnion l9 and a selective notch l5, so that the hanger will be held in an adjusted position on the base member, and the shade roller 29 retained in. the said hanger, but may be detached therefrom when required. The trigger 2| is shown in Figures 1 to 4 in a latching position, while in Figure 5 of the drawing, it is shown in releasing position. The hanger I8 is susceptible of variable adjustment for the fitting of difierent sizes of shades, as should be obvious.
The arm !2 is formed with opposite side edge flanges 22 inwhich is frictionally and slidably held the bed slide 23 of a curtain or drapery hanger 2!; for a support, rodor the like 25, the hanger 24 being shown in Figure l of the drawing as a hook, while in Figures 2 and 6 it is shown as a spring snap stud 25, although the hanger may be of any other approved type than those now shown.
The flange l4 and one of the flanges 22 are provided with limit shoulders 2! creating stops and the function thereofbeing well understood.
The base member it is fastened permanently to the casing of frame A in any suitable manner, preferably by screws 28.
On adjustment of the hangers the same track the base member I0, and the trigger 2i is manually controlled, as should be apparent, there being a finger grip 29 provided thereon.
What is claimed is:
1. A bracket of the kind described, comprising a base memberhavinghorizontally and vertically directed arms, respectively, asha'de *hanger slidably fitted to the horizontal arm, and a curtain hanger slidably fitted to the vertical arm, and means for locking the shade hanger in adjusted position on the horizontal arm, and -also latching a roller for the shade in said hanger.
- 2. A bracket of the kind described, comprising a base member having horizontally and vertically directed arms, respectively, ashade hanger slidably fitted to the horizontal arm, ianda curtain hanger slidably fitted to the vertical arm,
and means for locking the shade hanger in adjusted position on the horizontal arm, also latching a roller for the shade in said hanger, and a pivoted trigger interlocking with the base mem- 5 her and constituting the locking means.
