COMBINED WINDOW SHADE AND CURTAIN-POLE BRACKET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 585,4? 1, dated June 29, 1897. Application filed A ril 6, 1897. Serial No- 630,990. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILSON HANNEGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mo- Keesport, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined VVindow-Shade and Curtain-Pole Bracket; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make'and use the same.

My invention relates to a combined windowshade and curtain-pole bracket; and the object is to provide a device of this character which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, and which will subserve the double purpose of supporting the shade-roller as well as the curtain-pole'and permit of an adjustment to fit poles and shade-rollers of different lengths.

With this object in view the invention consists of certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully set forth and claimed. I 'In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a windowframe, illustrating the application of my invention thereto. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the supporting-strip and the pole and roller-brackets, and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the attachingstrip.

In the drawings, 1 denotes the supportingstrip, the inner end of which is bent at right angles to the body portion and is adapted to be secured to the inner edge of the windowframe. The outer end of this strip is provided with a longitudinal slot 2, intersected by a short vertical slot 3.

4 denotes a securing-strip, the inner end of which is provided with a T-head, which is inserted through the longitudinal slot of the supporting-strip, then turned and drawn outwardly into the vertical slot which receives the neck of the head. The outer end of this strip projects inwardly to fit against the outer edge of the window-frame and thence laterally to rest against the wall, to which it is secured by a screw or any other suitable means.

5 denotes the shade-roller bracket, the innor end of which is provided with a flat sleeve 6, that embraces the supporting-strip and is movable longitudinally thereon, and 7 de notes the curtain-pole bracket, which is also provided with a like sleeve 8, which is longitudinally movable on the supporting-strip.

As will be seen by referring to the drawings, the curtain-pole bracket extends in a plane above that of the shade-roller bracket for obvious reasons.

Any suitable means may be employed for holding the sleeves of the brackets in their adjustment, but a simple means is that shown in Fig. 2, in which the supporting-strip is provided with a longitudinal row of indentations 9,adapted to be engaged by studs 10,depressed from the body of the sleeves, which are preferably made of resilient material, so that the studs will be kept in the indentations.

To adjust the sleeves, all that is necessary is to grasp them with the forefinger and thumb upon the upper and lower edges of the sleeves, exert a pressure which will spring the sides of the sleeves apart, and thus disengage the studs from the indentations, when the brackets may be moved back and forth as occasion requires.

Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention, I do not desire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as clearly fall Within the scope of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof.

Having thus described my invention,what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

The combination with a supporting-strip, one end of which is bent to fit the inner side of a window-frame and the other end of which is provided with a longitudinal slot intersected by a short vertical slot, of a securingstrip having a T-head adapted to pass through the longitudinal slot and be drawn back into the vertical slot, and having an angular portion adapted to embrace the outer edge of the window-frame and be secured to the wall, and

brackets having flat sleeves to embrace the supporting-strip, and means for automatically locking the brackets to the desired adjustment to said supporting-strip, substantially as set forth.
