JAMES H. GREEN, OF FREEPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
WINDOWSHADE AND CURTAIN-POLE HOLDER.
Application filed April 30, 1907.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES H. GREEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Freeort, in the county of Armstrong and State of ennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Shade and Curtain-Pole Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention contemplates certain new and useful improvements in combined window shade and curtain pole holders, and the invention has for its object an improved device of this character which may be very cheaply manufactured,'which will be simple in construction and durable and eflicient in operation to hold both the window shade and curtain pole, and which is so arranged that the curtain pole brackets may be removed when not in use.
With these and other objects in view as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions and arrangements of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a erspective view of my improved combined window shade and curtain pole holder; Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 3-8 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a view of the blank from which the curtain pole brackets may be formed; and, Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of one of said curtain pole brackets detached.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
My im roved window shade and curtain pole hold r comprises aplate which is constructed in two sections 1 and 2 extensibly connected together, so that the device may be used with windows of different widths. In the preferred method of manufacture, the said sections are formed at their overlapping Specification of Letters Patent.

ends with longitudinal cuts, the metal bounding said cuts being bent outwardly in oppm site directions and turned over the ot er section whereby to provide two sets of attaching or guiding lugs 3. The outer ends of the sections 1 and 2 are slit longitudinally so as to permit of the formation of laterally bent arms recessed and apertured, respectively, to form shade brackets 4. A plurality of spaced tongues 5 is struck up from the outer end of each section, as shown, said tongues being adapted to hold the curtain pole brackets in a detachable manner.
The curtain pole brackets 6 are preferably formed of a strip of sheet metal which is curved at one end to form the upwardly facing socket for a curtain pole and which is cut longitudinally near the opposite end so as to produce a strip which is subsequently bent downwardly and secured preferably by soldering to the angularly dis osed extremity 8, so as to constitute a race 7. The curtain pole brackets 6, may manifestly be easily slipped downwardlybehind the tongues 5 whenever it isdesired to sup ort a curtain, and may beeasily detached w on not in use.
In the preferred manner of securing the holder to a window frame, I employ screws 9 that are screwed into the top of the frame and the holder then has its lower edge slipped behind the heads of said screws and rests upon the same, being securely held in place by said screws and also by L-shaped screw hooks 10, the lateral extremities of which may be turned down over the upper edge of the holder. In order to disengage the holder from the window frame, it is only necessary to turn the ends of the screw hooks 10 away from the outer face of the holder and then lift the holder from the screws 9.
From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawings, it
will be seen that I have provided a very simple, cheap and durable construction of combined wlndow shade and curtain pole holder embodying detachable curtain ole brackets that may be easily slipped in p ace when desired, or detached when not in use.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new is:
A curtain pole bracket provided with a.
pole receiving socket, with an singularly disslot being bent downwardly, substantially posed rear end, and with a brace secured in as shown and described. i 10 tegrally to the socket of the bracket and In testimony whereof I afiix my signature extending downwardly therefrom and atin presence of two witnesses.
tached to the engularl dis. osed rear end at JAMES I LGREEN. [1,. s.] the lower extremity 0' the atter, said brace Witnesses: resulting from a longitudinal slot formed in CHAS. H. MoKEE,
the bracket, the material bounded by said J. H. W. MILLER.
