SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 709,578, dated September 23, 1902. Application filed April 9, 1902. Serial No. 102,119. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, CHARLES BUOKALEW JA- COBY, a citizen of the United States, residing at West Nanticoke, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Combined Curtain-Fixture and Curtain-Support, of which the following is a specification.
-This invention relates to window-curtain fixtures and curtain-pole supports; and it consists in a bracket which serves as a combined fixture for the curtain-roller and a support for the hanging curtains, as hereinafter shown and described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings illustrative of the invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device complete With the curtain-rollerand curtain-pole in position. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the brackets detached.
The brackets are formed right and left and are precisely alike, except that the left-hand bracket has a vertical slot and the right-hand bracket has a perforation to adapt them to support the respective ends of the ordinary curtain-roller in the usual manner, and like reference characters are employed to denote corresponding parts in the two brackets and their attachments.
The brackets are preferably formed of sheet metal, with a base 10, having a perforation 11 for the fastening-screw and with one or more spurs 12 projecting rearwardly therefrom, the spurs being preferably formed by cutting V-shaped slits in the metal and bending the portion thereby formed outwardly, as indicated. These spurs by being forced into the window-casing assist in supporting the bracket, so that one screw only will be required to support each bracket. As many of the V-points may be employed as required; but generally two will be sufficient, as shown.
At one end each bracket is turned outward, as at 13, to form the support for the journals 14 15 of the curtain-roller 16 of the ordinary construction. The right-hand journal of the roller 14 is circular and engages a corresponding perforation 17 in the right-hand bracket, and the left-hand journal 15 is flattened and engages an open slot 18 in the left hand bracket in the usual manner of the ordinary curtain-roller.
Extending from one end of each bracket is an arm 19, bent outward and formed with a socket 20 to receive the ends of the pole 21, which will serve to support the usual hangings or lace curtains employed in connection with the ordinary blinds or roller-curtains. This makes a very simple, cheap, and convenient device easily-adapted to the purpose intended and also adapted to any style of roller or size of pole and applicable to any form or construction of casing or frame.
The brackets can be made in any size and of any ornamental shape or of any suitable material and can be varied or modified to suit the circumstances or locality where employed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claimis- As a new article of manufacture a combined curtain-fixture and curtain-pole support formed from a single piece of sheet metal and comprising a base-plate having an opening to receive a fastening-screw and provided on opposite sides of said opening with V-shaped struck-up spurs to engage the window-casing, said plate being provided at one end with a curtain -roller bracket bent at right angles thereto and with an arm bent forwardly over and beyond said curtain bracket to form a curtain-pole support, substantially as set forth.
