Description

S. A. COLLIER. COMBINATION SHADE AND CURTAIN BRACKET.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 5, 191a Patented May 5 ;'1914.
WW 9 M I sxmnnn A. COLLI R, .or PROVIDENCE, nnonn ISLAND.
COMBINATION SHADE AND CURTAIN BRACKET.
Application filed February 5. 1913. Serial No. 746,276.
Specification of Letters latent.
Patented May 5, 1914.
'1 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Sxrxnnn A; GoLLLER, a citizen'of the United States, residing at the city of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, and whose address is 385 Pine street, in said city, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Shade and Ourtain Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
' The object of my invention is to Simplify the structure in the manufacture'of brackets for application to ivindow casingsyand to render a device ofthis character capable of supporting a shade-roller, a portiere-pole, and a curtain-rod.
A further object in view is to provide a combined shade and curtain fixture stamped out of two pieces of metal, one fixed member constructed so as to avoid disfiguration by nail holes in the front face of a windowcasing, and a removable member designed to support a portiere-pole and a curtain-rod and adapted to be disconnected from the fixed member, when the latter is to support a shade-roller only.
My invention consists in the special details of construction, and combination of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings,
wherein like reference characters indicate like parts, Figure l is a vertical section of my improved device, as in position on a window-casing. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the fixed member of the device, showing an integral .arm of said'member designed to support a shade-roller. Fig. 3 is a similar view, showing the removable member adapted to be attached to the fixed member and designed to support. a portiere-pole and a curtain-rod. Figs. 4, 5 and.6 represent a modified construction of my device, Fig. 4 being a plan view of the device; Fig. 5, a side elevation of the device, and, Fig. 6, a means to permit the bracket to be positioned to accommodate different lengths of curt-ainsupporting means.
In carrying out my invention I construct my improved bracket wholly from sheet metal, which is cut, upset and punched, by means of a suitable power press, to form fthe structural parts in a device of this character.
My improved deviceconsists essentially of two parts, namely, a fixed bracket member a, and-a removable member b- The bracket member has a flat upright base portion aadapted to rest against a window-casing, as -c-, and a horizontal portion aextends rearwardly from the upper part of the base portion, and an arm a projects from the lower part of one of the side edges of the base portion, and said arm is provided with an opening to receive the pint le of a shade-roller -d-'. base portion a is provided with two vertically-arranged rectangular openings a and -a*- through its central part, the upper opening .a. to form a socket having opposed'oiitwardly and inwardly-curved lugs, as a a and the lower opening o to form a hearing. The ledge portion a of the bracket member has a downwardly bent part which is provided with fine saw-teeth, as at a,-, to embed into the top edge of the window-casing in securing the bracket'member in place. In stead of a toothed means 'a" the portion a may have a perforation to receive a nail n/- for securin the bracket member -a; in a fixed-posltion, in the manner shown in Figs. 1 and 2.,
The member ,b'- is flat and has two branches b and b. of the branch 7) has an enlarged head to freely enter within the socket -a of the fixed member a, and the inneredges of the head are curved, as at b -,-to.
fit upon the rear faces of the lugs -a of the socket, and the free end of the other branch b has a narrow projection b*- to rest within the bearing-a* of the member --a--. The member b has The free end a semi-circular opening-to serve as a bearing, as -b-, to support a portiere-pole e-, and a vertically-arranged .spur is formed at the outer part of said member b-, as at b-, to receive the perforated end of. a curtain-rod f'-. -b.- is made longer than the arnr-efiof the fixed member a in order thatthe portieres may hang free from contact with the curtain of the roller d-. When the member b is attached to the member -a thepweight of the portieres has a tenden to hold the projection .b Within its caring -a* while the lugs b prevent displacement of the head of the The member I member -b' being separable of the memher a'- permits of ready disconnection from the fixed member, when the latter is to support a shade-roller onl By my construction and arrangement of parts I provide a useful device for the purpose intended, is'simple and cheap to manufacture, eliminates injury to the woodwork by nail holes in the front face of a windowcasing, and at the same time a device to support three pieces-a shade-roller, a portiere-pole, and a curtain-rod.
What I claim and desire tosecure by Letters Patent, is
The herein-described combined shade and curtain fixture stampedout of two pieces of metal and comprising a member havin a flat upright base portion, said base portion having two central vertically-arranged openings, the upper opening to form a socket having opposed outwardly and inwardly-curved lugs, and the lower opening to form a bearing, a horizontal portlon extending rearwardly from the base portion and adapted to be secured to the top edge of a window-casing, said base portion having an arm projecting from the lower part of one of its side edges and having an opening to receive a pintle of a shade-roller, and a flat removable member having branches, the free end of one branch having an enlarged head to freely enter the socket and the inner edges of-the head curved to fit upon the rear faces of the lugs, and the free end of the other branch having a projection to rest within the bearing, said removable member having a semi-circular bearing to support a portiere-pole, and a vertically-arranged spur formed at the outer part of the said last mentioned member to receive the perforated end of a curtain-rod." v
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence 0 two witnesses. SKINNER A. COLLIER.
