T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ERICK NYLUND, a

citizen of the United States, residing at Stambaugh, in thecounty of Iron and State of Michigan. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Brackets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain improvements in curtain brackets and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character which may be employed with convenience and facility for supporting either shades or drapery.

It is also an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character with novel and improved means whereby the same may be conveniently and effectively applied in operative position.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved bracket whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for aise, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.

In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in elevation, of a curtain bracket constructed in accordance with the embodiment of my invention;

Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view in elevation, illustrating a further embodiment of my invention; and

As herein embodied, my improved bracket comprises two substantially tubular members A and B having their forward walls provided with a slot 1 and 2 respectively, extending the entire length thereof. The outer ends of the members A and B are provided with the substantially perpendicularly disposed wings 3. The wings 3 are Specification of Letters Patent.

provided with the inwardly directed prongs 4: for a purpose which will hereinafter be more fully explained.

The'members A and B are adapted for telescopic engagement and are disposed across the outer face of the vertical members of the window frame or the like, and said members A and B are forced inwardly one toward the other to cause the prongs 4- to penetrate the side faces of said vertical member in order to maintain the bracket in applied position.

The marginal portion of the slot 1 of one of the members as A is provided with the ratchet teeth 5 with which is adapted tov coact the spring 6 carried by the inner end portion of the second member B so that the members A and B are automaticallyheld against relative outward movement. It is to be noted that the spring 6 extends outwardly of the member A through the slot 1 thereof so that said spring 6 may be disengaged from the teeth 5 when it is desired to remove the bracket.

One of the wings 3 is provided with a returned portion 7 provided with means, as indicated at 8, whereby a shade roller may be engaged therewith.

If preferred, however, the adjustable member 0 may be employed and as herein embodied said member C is provided with means, as indicated at 9, to-coact with a shade roller and also with an upstanding arm 10 adapted to be operatively engaged with a pole for the purpose of supporting drapery. The inner marginal portion of the member C is provided with a substantially right angle extension 11 provided adjacent the lower end with a barrel or head 12 extending transversely of the extension 11 and adapted to be slidably engaged within one of the members, as B. The barrel or head 12 is formed by bending the lower end portion of the extension 11 and is provided with the spring 14 adapted to coact with the teeth 15 formed in the second marginal portion of the slot 1 of the member A. By this arrangement it will be perceived that the member C may be readily adjusted longitudinally of the member A in accordance with the requirements of practice.
