HEAD-REST FOR HATS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 776,065, dated November 29, 1904.
Application filed April 9, 1904. Serial No. 202,312. (No model.)

Beit known that I, FERDINAND JAEGER, a citizen .of the United States, residing at New York city, (Brooklyn,) county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Head-Rests for Hats, of which the following is a specification.
Thisinvention relates to a headrest for hats which is so constructed that inconvenient pressure of the hat against the forehead is prevented and free ventilation is insured.
In the accompanying' drawings, Figure 1 is a bottom view of my improved head-rest, showing it applied to a hat; Fig. 2, a crosssection on line Q 2, Fig. l; and Fig. 3, a longitudinal section on line 3 3, Fig. 1, partly broken away.
The letter a represents a resilient plate or shield forked at each end so as to form a pair of resilient pointed prongs d. These prongs are adapted to engage the sweat-band of the hat and may be turned up at different angles to set the shield at any inclination desired. To
the lower side of shield a is secured asuitable pad or cushion to relieve the head from pressure. At its center there is pivoted to shield a a curved arm c, which may be turned at right angles to the shield and engages with its forward end the front of the hat-crown. This arm will by folding over the forehead provide means for raising the hat slightly off the front of the head. The arm c is cushioned, it being preferably provided with a number of slits c, through which is drawn a tape d, the tension of which may thus be readily adjusted. I preferably pivot the arm c removably to shield a, the latter being provided with a flanged eyelet a2, whichkconstitutes the fulcrum and engages a slot c2 of arm c. This slot has an enlargement c at one end, so as to permit the ready detachment of the arm from the shield.
In use the arm cis either folded at right angles to shield a or is swung into parallelism with the same to be out of contact with the forehead, or `it is entirely removed. It will be seen that by my invention the hat is held off the forehead of the wearer, so as to avoid objectionable pressure and permit free ventilation.
What I claim isl. A head-rest for hats composed of a resilient shield having forked ends, and of a cushs ion secured to said shield, substantially as specified.
2. A head-rest for hats composed of a shield adapted to engage the hat, and an arm pivoted to said shield, substantially as specified.
3. Ahead-rest for hats composed of a resilient shield having forked ends, and of an arm pivloted to said shield, substantially as speciiiec 4C. Ahead-rest for hats composed of acushioned resilient shield having forked ends, and of a cushioned arm removably pivoted to said shield, substantially as specified.
