ATlEh MARCAR BALABAN, OF WEST DIDSBURY, MANCHESTER, ENG-LAND.
COPY-HOLDER. FOR TYPE-VRITING MACHINES.
Application filed September 17, 1913.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MAROAR BALABAN, a Turkish subject, residing at West Didsbury, Manchester, county of Lancaster, England, have invented certain new and useful Tmprovements in Copy-Holders for Type- Writing Machines, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an improved construction of holder or stand for holding manuscript or other copy for the use of a typist on the type writing machine.
The object of the invention is to provide or construct a copy holder from which any vibration of the table or stand of the machine will be eliminated.
Tt consists essentially in constructing the appliance with the base which rests on the table and by which it is supported separate from the upright of the holder and suspend ing or connecting the upright by springs, cords or similar device which will absorb the vibration or movement set up in the table or stand by the working of the type writer.
The invention will be fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1. is a perspective view. Fig. 2. is a side elevation partly in section.
The copy holder is constructed with a base or stand A an auxiliary base B, suspended or connected to the base A by flexible cords or connections I) an upright C and a copy support D.
The base A is of any suitable shape or design such as with a longitudinal member a to rest behind the type writing machine and a transverse member or members a at one or both sides of the machine. This construction I prefer as it permits the copy holder being brought close to the machine and the support D to project forward over the machine. The base however, may be of any other convenient shape such as flat, curved or round.
Upon the base A are fitted a number of Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 790,277.
upright pillars a bent over at the upper end. to form supports for the upright C and copy support D.
The upright arm C is mounted in a second or auxiliarv base B (of corresponding or complementary shape to the base A) which is suspended or swung from the pillars a by cords or connections Z) which may be of twisted or plaited cord, catgut, elastic, or other material extensible or inextensible or may be springs or buffers. These cords or connect-ions Z) intercept or eliminate any vibration of the base A on the stand or table of the type writing machine and prevent such being transferred to the copy holder.
The support D for the copy at the top of the upright C may be made as described in my former application Serial No. @6566, or it may be made in any other suitable or known form.
This construction assures that the copy shall remain steady before the eyes of the typist notwithstanding any vibration or movement set up in the stand or table by the operating of the typewriting machine.
WVhat I claim as my invention and desire to protect by Letters Patent is In a copyholder for typewriting machines, the combination with a relatively fixed base to rest upon a table, and a plurality of pillars fixed to said base and projecting upwardly therefrom, of an auxiliary base, an upright fixed thereto, a copy support fixed to said upright, and flexible connections between the auxiliary base and said pillars for movably suspending the auxiliary base, the upright, and the copy support.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MARCAR BALABAN.
