To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALnKsANDnn PLUDow- SKI, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at aterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat- Ventilating Supports, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hat ventilating supports.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device for positioning a hat upon the head of a wearer in such a manner as to furnish adequate ventilation thereto and maintain the hat out of contact with the head.

A further object of the device is the provision of a supporting means for hats adjustable in diameter secured to the hat and allowing free ventilation between the hat and the head of the wearer, the arrangement being such as to provide a comfortable headgear that is sanitary in its arrangement.

With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then claimed.

In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a side elevation of a straw hat provided with the present device.

It will be understood that the present ventilator may be employed with any form of hat, the same being herein illustrated in connection with a straw hat 10 having a crown 11 and a brim 12.

The device as best illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawing broadly consists of an adj ustable hat receiving band or annulus 13 formed of resilient metal and a similar band 14 adapted to engage the head of the wearer, the said bands being connected together by a plurality of plates 15. It will be understood that the two bands and connecting plates are preferably formed integrally of a single piece of resilient metal, the bands each being adjustable in length by means of a joint 16 as shown in Fig. 5 formed by providing receiving sockets 17 in the underlying free end 18 of the saidbands and hooks or spurs 19 in the overlapping ends 20 thereof. A suitable covering 21 formed of such material as leather, fabric or silk incloses the lower band 14 and the connecting plates 15.

The band 13 is adjusted to the proper diameter for being closely fitted and tensioned within the open side of the crown 11, being otherwise secured therein if desired, and in which position of the device only the covered portion thereof is exposed to View, as best illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The covered band 14 is adapted for engaging the head of the wearer and may be adjusted in size to fit the head which may or may not accord with the size of the hat 10. Rectangular openings 22 are arranged between the bands 13 and 14 and the plates 15 providing for the free passage of air therethrough to the interior of the hat crown 11 aswell as to the head of the wearer, it being evident that a comfortable hat support is provided which is sanitary in its nature and is rendered ornamental by the desired form of covering 21 which is employed therewith. Upon refer-ring to Fig. 1, it will be observed that the lower edge of the annulus 14 is spaced from the hat brim 12 a distance substantially equal to the distance between the hat brim and the top of the crown 11 whereby the top of the head of the wearer is spaced below the brim 12 to insure a perfect circulation of air within the hat to contact the head.

What I claim as new is:

A device of the class described comprising in combination with a hat having a crown, a split band adjustable in length having overlapping ends adapted for close engagement within the said crown, a split annulus parallel with the said hand having overlapping ends corresponding thereto, connecting plates perpendicularly arranged between the said band and annulus forming rectangular ventilating openings therebetween, the annulus being spaced a distance from the hat band so that the head of the wearer is spaced therefrom to insure a horizontal air space between the hat and head of the wearer, the 10 lus adapted for resting upon the head of the 15 wearer when the device is in use.
