Be it known that I, MARY A. Biz-RNs. a citizen of the United States, residing at lililliamstown, in the county of Oswego and State of New York, have invented a new and useful lVomans Hat-Banding, of which` the following is a specification.
. his invention relates to certain improvements in hatlinings and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved lining which may be adjusted to heads of different sizes and which, when the lining has been properly adjusted, permits a convenient fitting and adjustment of the hat upon the head of the wearer.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved lining whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
ln order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure l is a sectional view taken through a hat showing a lining constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention applied thereto; and Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view in plan of'a lining constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and before being applied to a hat.
:is disclosed in the accompanying drawings, C denotes the crown of a hat which may be of any style or type desired and- L denotes the lining adapted to be applied within the crown.
l--s herein disclosed, the lining L comprises an elongated strip of iiexible material or fabric which may be silk, satin, net or any other desired flexible fabric. One longitudinal marginal portion of the strip l is provided with a hem 2 extending entirely therealong and through which is threaded the shirring strip or cord 3. At a predetermined point inwardly of the opposite longitudinal edge, and preferably about one and onehalf inches, the strip 1 is provided with a tuck 4 through which is threaded a shirring strip or cord 5.
In applying my improved lining to a hat, the marginal portion thereof adjacent the tuck 4 is adapted to be secured within the crown of a hat as indicated at 6 in any conventional manner with the ends of the strip free one from the other. After this connection has been effected the strip or cord 5 is drawn to` malte the connected marginal portion. of the lining fit a particular or individual hat. After this operation the strip or cord 3 is then drawn to complete the setting of the lining L. In applying the lining' L the free extremities of each of the strips or cords 3 or 5 are adapted to be tied or otherwise connected as indicated at 7.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a lining constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material depar ture from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason lt do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice, eXcept as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
ln combination with a hat, a lining therefor comprising a flexible strip of material having one marginal portion secured to the crown of the hat, the opposite longitudinal margin of the strip being provided with a hem, said strip at a predetermined point in wardly of its connected longitudinal margin being provided with a tuck, said tuck and hem extending the entire length of the lining, and tiexible members threaded through the hem and the tuck, the ends of the iexible strip being free one from the other.
