MARY JANE- HARRIS, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR F ONE-HALF TO MARGARET M. SUTTON, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
HEAD-COVERING.
'meaeio.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY JANE HARRIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Head-Covering, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
7 This invention relates to* a head covering and, more especially, to a covering adapted for the use in the dryingof the human hair after the same has been shampooed'.
The object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device of the character specified which: is conveniently attached to the head and which will serve to protect the eyes from the sun and the hair from the burning efiect thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide, as an article. of manufacture, a head covering which includes, as essential components,'a fabric-member comprising a body portion provided with an elongated band which is of a length greater than the width of the body portion to present extensions or tying portions; and, to this, is detachably connected a vizor-member of suitable and transparent material, this vizor-member being provided with a flexible band or protecting edge; there being cooperating means carried by the bands of the fabric-member and the vizor-member by which the latter is attached to the fabridmember.
The invention is susceptible of embodiment in many difierent forms; and it is to be understood, therefore, thatthe particular embodiment-herein disclosed is an exemplification of a form which has, in actual practice, been found to be well-suited for its de-,
- signed purpose.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a View of my improved headcovering showing the same in actual use;
Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of the cover;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view, in perspective, showing the covering, with the vizormember detachable from the fabric-member.
Referring to these drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates, generally, a fabric- Specification of Letters Patent. Pwbgntgd Sgpt, 1111, 19)]1'1,
Application filed November 10, 1915. Serial No. 60,735.
member constituting one component of the device, and which, in this instance, is shown as comprising a body portion 2 of any suitable material, such as fabric or the like.
This member is of any appropriate dimensions. Formed as a part of the body port1on of the fabric member, or otherwise attached as a portion thereof, is an elongated band 3, relatively narrow in width, but of a length greater than the width of the body portion 2 to present extensions or tying ends 4-.
On the band 3 are secured, in spacedapart relation, attaching devices 5. Attachable to' the fabric member is a vizor-member 6 which, in this instance, comprises a transparent element 7 of suitable shape and of a Width less than that of the body portion of the fabric member and of any suitable and transparent material. Preferably and as shown, there is attached at one edge of the viZor-member, and at opposite sides thereof, a flexible band 8, of any desired width and material. In this instance, the band of fabric is stitched to the element 7. Secured to the band 8 are attaching instrumentalities 9 arranged in spaced apart relation and adapted to interlock with the attaching devices on the band 3. By these means, the member 6 may be detachably secured to the fabric member 1, thus permitting the latter to be separated from the'memher 6 so that the same can be replaced or removed for-cleaning.
From the foregoing, it will be perceived that I have devised a simple, inexpensive and compact structure, and one which is of particular utility for the use" of ladies in drying their hair after the same has been shampooed. The function of the fabricmember 1 is to cover and protect the hair while drying'in the sun; and the member 6, being preferably coloredgreenprotects the eyes while the user is sitting in the sun.
It will be obvious that the structure may be made of materials other than those specified, and that the dimensions and form thereof may be considerably varied without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim is v A head covering comprising a fabric a separable fastening device secured to the member; a band secured along an edge of separable fastening device secured to said said fabric member; said band having porband and vizor. 10 tions extended beyond the fabric member In testimony whereof I aflix my signature to constitute tying ends; one component of in presence of tWo Witnesses.
. MARY JANE HARRIS. band and fabric intermediate the tying ends; Witnesses: i a vizor member; a band secured along an A. K. DAGGETT, edge thereof; and another component of a M. M. SUTTON.
