BENJAMIN WERTHEIMER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.; FREDERICK F. EISEMANN EXECUTOR OF SAID WER'IHEIMER, DECEASED.
ADJUSTABLE BANDEAU.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2, 1915.
Application filed November 3, 1914. Serial No. 870,031.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BEnJAMIN 'WERTHEI- MER, a citizen of the Unlted States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have-invented a new and Improved Adjustable Bandeau, of whlch the following is a. full, clear, and exact dGSCllP- tion.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved adjustable bandeau for ladies hats, and arranged to permit convenient adjustment as to size to properly fit the wearers head.
In orderto accomplish the desired result use is made of an adjusting member slidable on the inner edge of the head band and having overlapping ends to permit of adjusting the member for increasing 0r decreasing the size of the head band to fit the Wearers head.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in
which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure 1 is an inverted plan view of a hat.
rovided with the adjustable head band or bandeau; and Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of the same. 7
The adjustable head band or bandeau A, of a pliable fabric material, fits with its outer edge onto the outside of the crown B of a hat of any desired shape. The outer end of the head band or bandeau is secured by stitches C or other fastening means to of increasing or decreasing the opening of V the head band or bandeau A.
In practice, the bearing D is formed by loops, stitched onto the edge of the head band or bandeau A, and the ring shaped adjusting member E is preferably in the form of a covered soft nonresilient wire, the end portions E and E of which overlap, as
plainly indicated in Fig. 1. By the operator taking hold of the terminals of the end por tions E, E the wire can be pulled in its bearing D to reduce the openin of the head band or bandeau A, or the end portions of the Wire can be pushed in opposite directions to gradually enlarge-the opening of the head band A, thus pushing the inner portion of the said head band nearer to the crown B, as indicated, for instance, in dotted lines in Fig. 2. y a
From the foregoing it will be seen that by the arrangement described the opening in the head band or bandeau A can be readily increased or diminished to suit the size of the wearers head. By the use of a covered,
pliable wire, the latter remains in the adjusted position but, if desired, the ends may be turned over or bent back to lock the end portions in place against further opening or closing.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A hat provided with a head band secured at its outer edge to the hat and extending within the crown of the hat, bearings along the inner edge of the said head band, and a nonresilient flexible, adjusting memberof ring shape and slidably engaging the said bearings, the end portions of the said adjusting member overlapping to permit of adjusting the member for increasing or decreasing the opening of the head band. v 2. A hat provided with a crown, a head band attached at its outer edge to the outside of the crown, the head band extending under the bottom edge of the crown to the inside thereof, loops on the inner edge of the said headband, and a covered wire formed into ring shape and extending through the said loops, the said wire having its end portions overlapping to permit of adjusting the wire for increasing or decreasing the openlng of the head band.
In testlmony whereof I have slgned my name to this specification in the presence of Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. (1.
