HAT-SECURING MEANS.
Application filed July 6, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BRONISLAW SOROCINK- SKY, a subject of the Czar of Russia, resident of Cosmopolis, county of Grays Harbor, and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Hat-Securing Means, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in means for securing ladies hats upon their heads, and has as its special object the provision of means whereby any kind or style of hat whatever may be secured to the hair of the head in an easy and effectual manner, the device being intended to be used in conjunction ith hat pins of ordinary type.
A further object is to provide such means in forms which may be readily secured within the crown of the hat and which materially assist in adapting hats of diverse shapes and sizes to various sizes of heads.
These objects are attained by the novel construction and combination or parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which:-
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view taken through a conventional type of hat and indicating the attachment thereto.
Fig. 2 is a similar sectional view of the hat and attaching means.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. i is a vertical sectional view taken on line of Fig. 2.
In the drawings, the numeral 10 represents the brim of the hat to which is attached the crown 11, termed with the top 12.
Rigidly secured within the crown at the rear are a pair of vertical strips 1%, the same being spaced equally from the center and have formed with them extending resilient arms 16, which may be bent to conform with the hair, the front end 17, of the arms being upturned and held in slidable engagement with the interior of the hat crownby means of a clip 18, secured by stitching or otherwise, the ends 17 having inturned extremities :20 so formed as to prevent their being withdrawn from the retaining clip 18.
Secured upon the upper surface of the arms 16, by rivets 21, are flat springs 22, the

extreme forward ends 23, being slightly raised, the main portion of the springs lying closely adjacent to the arms but presenting sufficient space to receive the points 25 of the hat pins 26, furnished with knobs 27 and adapted to be entered through the side of the hat in the usual manner, the springs engaging with the point or shankof the pin so as to hold the same firmly in position and prevent their withdrawal. except considerable force be used.
T he purpose or" having the vertical eX- tensions 17 slidable, is to permit the hat to be used upon difierent shaped heads, it will be perceived that hatpins are used in an ordinary manner, so as to hold the hat securely upon the head of the wearer, the pins passino through the hair as is usual.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A hat securing means comprised of a pair of resilient strips secured at one end within the crown of a hat, said strips being spaced one from the other, and spring clips secure-ii upon said strips having openings therebetween adapted to contact and en gage with the points of entered hat-pins.
2. In a hat securing means, the combination with a crown of a hat, and a pair of hat pins, of a pair of resilient arms, secured at one end within the interior of said hat, the opposite ends of said arms extending upwardly at the front of the hat, means for holding said front ends in operative position, means preventing said ends from displaceient, spring clips secured upon said strips,
and means formed therebetween receptive ot' the points of hat pins when entered through the side of the hat.
3. In a hat securing means, the combination with a crown of a hat and a pair of hat pins of a pair of spaced spring strips, means for securing said strips rigidly at the rear of the crown of said hat, means for slidably securing the ends of said spring clips at the trout of said hat, and means formed with said strips adapted to tensionally engage said hat pins when entered therein.
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature.
BRONISLAW SOROCINKSKY.
