JANNETTE LATSCH, OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
HAIR-surrortrn'n.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. *7, 1909.
Application filed November 30, 1908. Serial No. 465,199.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, .IANNETTE LATsci-r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in t-he county of King and State of iVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Supporters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for holding in place and supporting hair on ladies heads, and has for an object the provision of means that will support and hold in place hair when placed somewhat down upon the back of the head or neck.
Another object in view is the provision of a framework adapted to fit the head and to be covered by the natural hair for holding in any desired position the natural hair after having been dressed.
IVith these and other objects in view the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of the support applied. Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view of the support.
In dressing hair it is rather difiicult to support the hair properly for any considerable length of time when the same is worn on the back of the head or down'on the neck, without the use of some kind of frame or supporting device, and it is to this class ofdevices that the invention relates. In forming a hair support according to the present invention a framework of wire is formed that partially encireles the head, and has a supporting knot that fits over the back of the head to which the hair is secured in dressing. In applying the framework the hair is first let down and the part that encircles the head is placed across substantially the center of the head, and the part that supports the hair is adjusted on the back of the head. After the frame has been thus placed in position the hair is combed up and over the frame for hiding the same and is coiled or otherwise arranged as may be desired and secured to the knot or portion resting on the back of the head by pins in the usual manner.
In order that the invention may be more fully understood an embodiment of the same is shown in the accompanying drawings in whichl indicates a horse shoe shaped frame that is adapted to extend across the center of the head from side to side but have the ends thereof point toward the rear. The frame l is formed of wire 2 covered with either natural hair or artificial hair 3 sufliciently to hide the wires. Extending from wires 2 are a pair of braces 4; and 5 that engage a wire frame 6 which is formed with a projecting portion 7 Wire frame 6 is arranged with a notched out portion S for accommodating the hair on the back of the head as the same is combed up to meet the remaining part of the hair. The frame 6 is covered with either natural or artificial hair 9 in order to cover the frame, and also provide means into which pins may be forced for supporting the natural hair on the head of the person wearing the support. After the front part of the hair has been combed over the frame l and the back part of the hair has been combed to meet the front part of the hair, the same is formed into a knot over the frame 6 in any desired manner, and is pinned thereto. As will be evident the frames l and 6 may be adjusted to any desired place on the back of the head, either near the Atop of the head or near the neck according to the style in which the hair may be dressed and the position of the knot. In forming the supports the same may be covered with either natural or artificial hair of any color or shade for matching the hair of the person using the support.
The frame as will be clearly seen from Fig. l is formed in substantially two parts connected by bars 4 and 5, one part; namely, frame l being used for retaining purposes, and the other part, or frame 6, being used for use in holding the hair in any desired place on the head. As clearly seen in Fig. 2 the frames l and 6 are substantially U- shaped in formation, and by such shape properly fit the head of the wearer, and by the formation of the same of wire with thin covering the same is easily hid from view by the natural hair, and yet the hair is positively held in correct position until released.
/hat I claim is:
l. In a support for hair, a retaining frame consisting of wires spaced apart and formed into a substantially U-shaped construction, a supporting frame spacedV from the retaining frame and extending partially within the same, a substantially cone-shaped projection carried by the supportingvframe, and wires connecting the retaining frame, the supporting frameffand the cone-shaped projection.
2. In a support for hair, a retaining frame consisting of wires formed substantially in the'shape of the letterU, a supporting frame vspaced from the retaining i frame and extending partially therein, and
consisting of a base wire substantially cirn cular in outline and having a portion of its base turned inward and upward, connecting wires engaging one of the wires of the retaining frame and extending to and encircling the base wire of' the supporting frame,
a second substantially circular wire spaced outwardly from the base wire and engaging the' inward and upward `turned portion a thereof and substantially concentric with the base wire, the connecting wires extending to the-second mentioned circular wire and encircling the same and extending to and engaging 4 the end of the inward and upward turned portion of' the first mentioned circular wire.
3. In a support for hair, a pair of wires Aformed substantially in the shape of the ,letter U, a substantially circular base wire having a portion turned inward and upward to a point above the center of' the base, a second substantially circular wirew positioned .above the center'-of the first mentioned circular wire and connected with the inward and upward turned portion thereof, a pair of wires connecting one of the first mentioned wires with the first and second ,mentioned circular wires andr the vend of.'
theinward and upward turned portion ot' the first mentioned circular wire.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of' two witnesses.
