HAIR ORNAMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 15, 1909.
Application filed December 4, 1908. Serial No. 465,916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT HOCHIIEUIER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough'of Manhattan, in the. county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hair Ornament, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention is an improvement in ornaments forthe hair, and has in view a device capable of sup 'iorting a number of feathers or plumes, and which may be easily applied. and secured to the hair at various points and readily detached.
To this end the invention may be defined as consisting of a curved or arched member to conform to the head, and having at the convex side thereof a number of-radiating tubular feather holders, and at the top concave side a swiveled or pivoted hairpin, which, in connection with the ends of the curved member, serves to engage in the hair and securely hold the ornament to the head.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forn'iing a part of this specification, in' which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 illustrates one application of my improved hair ornament to the head; Fi 2 is a tace view of the same, showing one of,
the tubular feather holders in section; and Fig. 3 IS an edge view of the ornament, showing the inclination of the tubular holders to the plane of the curved or arched member.
The invention essentially consists of a member 5, a hairpin or other suitable device 6 for assisting in securing. the member to the head, and one or more tubular holders 7. The member in the nature of a curved or arched wire or strip to conform to the head, and has eyes 8 formed at its ends, or otherwise blunted at these points, to prevent thewire from entering into the scalp when the ornament is applied. The hairpin 6 is arranged at the center of the member 5 and is pivoted-thereto to swing crosswise of the plane of said member, in order that the member may be adjusted on the hair and be eii'ectively secured at the desired point. The
tubulaL-holders 7 radiate from the outer or convex side of the member 5 and are preferably arranged ata slight inclination to the plane of said member, with all of the holders located in the plane of a. cone. In these several tubular holders are inserted the quills of feathers or plumes, which are so positioned as to droop artistically over the hair when the ornament is applied.
In applying the ornament to the head at. the point desired, the ends of the member 5, as well as the hairpin, are passed into the hair until the upper portion of the member is firmly seated and the proper inclination of the ornament attained. The plumes drooping about the. radiating tubular holders will obscure them from view and give an ornamental efl'ect.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. The combination of an arched member having a series of radiating tubular holders, 'andnieans for securing the member to the hair.
2. The combination of an arched-member having hair-engaging end portions, tubular holders carried bysaid member, and a device for engaging the hair, attached to the member approximately centrally thereof.
3. The combination of an arched wire member having hair-engaging end portions, tubular holders attached to and radiating from the outer face of the wire, and a hairpin pivotally connected to the member at substantially the center thereof.
4. The combination of an arched member having tubular holders radiating therefrom and inclined to the plane thereof, and means for attaching the member to the hair.
