TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known thatl I, CARL BAUMANN, of Poughkeepsie, in the county of Dutchess, and State ofNew York, have invented a new and improved Watch-Protector; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming partot` this specification, in whieh- Figure 1 represents a. front view of my improved watch-protector.

Figure 2 is a vertical transversev section of the same, taken on the plane ofthe line a: x, tig.

This invention relates to a new watch-protector, Awhich is composed of a, C-shaped plate, fastened in the vest pocket, andof a wire ring, fastened to the lower part of the plate. The watch is h'eld between the ring and plate,- and can only be extracted by drawing the upper part of' the ring away from the plate, which can only be done b y hand, and if the watch is pulled without drawingfthe ring andeplate apart, as aforesaid, it can never be removed. A hook is formed at the lower` end ofthe plate, to serve as support for the watch, and to prevent the removal of the same from underneath, which may be attempted by cutting open the lower part ofthe pocket.

A, in the drawing, represents a sheet-metal. or other plate, bent into the form indicated in fig. 2, and of suitable width. It is fastened in any suitableV manner to the inner side oi' a vest or other pocket, either by sewing or by strings, a, as shown, or otherwise. On the lower end of the plate A is formed'a forward-projecting hook, b, as shown in tig. 2,

, B represents a wire ring or bent rod, secured rigidly to the lowerpart of the plate, so'that its upper end will, by the spring of the plate, press against or towards the face of' the plate. On the upper part ofthe ring is 'or may be formed a forward-projecting portion, c, as shown.

The watch is inserted by drawing the upper part of the ring away from the plate, and is then slipped between. Its stem is clamped by the upper part ofthe ring, as shown, and its lower part rests upon or is suspended above the hook Z1, so as to be protected by the same. The removal oi`,the wntch from above or below is thus equally well prevented.

The plate A may be perforated or indented, to accommodate the knob on the end of the watch-stem, as shown in iig. 2.

Having described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A watch-protector, consisting of a springfplate, A, and of the bent rod B, which is fastened to the plate, and between the upper part of which plate and rod the stem of the watch is clamped,substantially as herein shown and described.

' 2. Forming a hook, b, on the lower end of the spring-plate A of a watch-protector, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
