Description

'UNITED STATES PATE-NT OFFICE.
HENRY A. SOLIDAY, OF DOYLESTOWN, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN KNIFE-HEADS FOR HARVESTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 88,091, dated March 23, 1869.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY A. SOLIDAY, of
Doylestown, in the county of Wayne and Statel of Ohio, have invented a new and' useful Improvement in Harvester Knife-Heads; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side view of my improved knife-head or cutter-bar head for harvesters. Fig. 2 is a top View of the same.
The object of my invention is to remedy the difficulty of wear, and consequent loose joint, between the knife-head or cutter-bar head and the connecting-rod of harvester.
My invention consists of a peculiar novel construction of knife-head, in two sections, with lling between, one of the sections being adjustable, and the whole being simple, efficient, and durable.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents part of the cutter-bar. The knife-head is made in two sections, the part B being welded to the bar A, andthe followerE made adjustable thereon by means of set-screws E and G, the latter of which works in a slot in the bar A. Between the two sections of the head is the filling D.
By the above construction, the hole E may be contracted whenever the joint of the connecting-rod wears loose.
The above construction of knife-head is very simple, cheap, efficient, and durable, and it remedies one of the greatest difficulties in harvesters and mowers.
I am aware that various means have been HENRY A. SOLIDAY.
Witnesses WM. G. BIGLOW, HENRY COOPER.
