HIRAM HARRIS, OF CIRCLEVILLE, OHIO. Letters Patent No. 84,357, dated November 24, 1868.
IMPROVED SNOW-PLOW.
The Schedule referred toiri these Letters Patent and making part of the name Be it known that I, HIRAM HARRIS, of Oircleville, in the county of Pickaway, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Snow-Plow; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my improved snow-plow.
. Figure 2 is a top or plan view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts. My invention has for its object to furnish an improved snow-plow, to be attached to the pilot or cow-' at an angle, as shown in fig. 2. The lower parts of the mould-boards b are made inclined, so as to pass beneath the snow, and raise it from the'track. The upper parts of the sides or mould-boards are curved upward and forward, as shown in figs. 1 and 2, so that, as thesnow rises, it may be prevented from passing back to the engine, and maybe projected or thrown forward and to the sides of the track, upon the top of the snow-banks, and out of the way.
To the under side of the forward part of the mouldboards I) is securely attached a bar or plate, 0, as shown in the figures, so as to form a recess to receive'the point of the pilot A, as shown.
D is the shackle-bar, the forward or flee end of which is detachably secured to the upper forward part of the plow B by a bolt or pin, passing through an arm or support attached to said plow, and through the forward end of said shackle-bar, as shown.
To the upper and lower parts of the rear ends of the mould-boards b are attached the ends-of the bars or arms E, the rear ends of which are secured to the frame of the pilot A, or of the engine.
By this construction and arrangement, the plow A may be easily, quickly, and conveniently attached and detached, and, when attached, will be held securely in place.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The snow-plow B, the mould-boards I) of which are constructed substantially in the form and mannerherein shown and described, and which is detachably secured to the pilot A by the bar or plate G, shackle-bar D,
and side arms or bars E, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
HIRAM HARRIS.
