Description
or plate, secured toI a horizontal pointed baron the or plate, G, (see fig. 1,) which is designed for the purcesa @man l @fina JACOB BROWN, OF HAMLIN MICHIGAN.
Lettes Patent No. 85,994,
dated January 19, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN POTATG-DIG-G-ERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JACOB BROWN, of Hamlin, in the county of Monroe, and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Potato- Digging Machine; and I d0 hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l represents a longitudinal central section of my potato-plow, and
Figure 2, a side elevation of the same.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a potato-plow with an inclined bevelled metal projection lower side of the digger or plow by means of va metal plate, for the purpose of imparting a uniform line of draught to the plow while in motion. l
To enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, to make and use the same, I will now describe its construction and operation,
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the plow-beam, to the lower rear end of which is secured a standard or bar, a, which is fastened, at its lower or opposite end, to the outer end of a horizontal bar, b, pointed at its inner end, and provided with a metal point, fitting into the cavity on the rear side of the plowshare or point d.
To the lower side of the bar b is secured, by means of a metal plate, an inclined bevelled metal projection pose of imparting a uniform line of draught to the plow or digger while in motion. i
D is the coulter, secured to the beam A in an inclined position, and provided, at its lower end, with the plow-point d.
C designates a metal bar, fastened o'r bolted to the rear under side of the beam A, and made to project outward at each end from the beam A,a short distance, and then bent downward in a semcircnlar shape.
c c designate a series of metal bars or rods, which are secured, at one end, to the coulter D, and, at the otherend, to the semicircular portion of the bar C.
F F are the plow-handles, which are fastened, at their lower ends'7 to each side of the horizontal bar b, and made to extend outward and upward, and held to the beam A, and, at their upper ends, by means of cross-bars. y
I do not claim the coulter D andvbar U, provided with the bars or rods c c; but
What I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The inclined bevelled metal projection or plate G, held on the horizontal pointed bar b of the digger or plow, by means of a .metal plate secured thereto, arranged and operated substantially as and for the purpose set forth.`
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.v
Witnesses: JACOB -BROWN ALEX. D. ANDERSON, Gno. K. MAXWELL.
