Description

` 1. w. TULL.
Clod Fender.
Patented Dec. 21, 1869.
JOHN V. TULIJ, OF ZIONSVILLE, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLODFENDEF2S.Y
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 9.l2, dated December 21, 1869.
To all whom, it may concer/z:
Be it known that I, JOHN XV. TULL, of Zionsville, in the county of Boone and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Olod`Fenders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which* Figure l represents a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a plan view, of my clod-fender.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in both figures.y
My invention relates to improvements in clod-fenders; and to this end it consists in the employment of a shield attached to the hub of a wheel, said hub being provided with arms, substantially in the manner and for the pur pose hereinafter set forth.
It further consists in the peculiar manner of securing the fender to the plow, which will be hereinafter described.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will now describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying` drawings, A represents the main beam of the plow; B B, the plow-beams provided at each end with plowpoints a a.
C C represent the handles.
D represents a meta-l bar, provided at one end with a projection, a', through which is made a hole. This plate is then secured to the upper surface of the main beam A. It will be observed that the bar D is formed on its inner end with three or more holes a2 a2 a2.
This is for the purpose of securing the fender at any desired distance from the plow.
E represents a met-al plate, made as seen in the drawings, one end of which is secured to the outer end of the main beam A, and the other end is bent up at right angles, said bend passing through the opening formed inthe end of the bar D, and is retained in its place by a pin, d. At the point a3, in the plate E, is sccured the shaft b, over which is placed the hub f, provided with arms g g, made as seen in Fig. l, which are used for the purpose of preventing the dirt and clods from falling on the small corn when plowing near the same.
G is a plate-shield inserted on the shaft b, outside the hub, and is retained in place on the shaft by the aid of a' pin, g, inserted in the shaft b.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A @lod-fender, consisting of bar D, plate E, hub f, provided with arms g g, and shield G, all combined ,and arranged in combination with the plow, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foreging as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
