Figure 3 represents a plan view of a side-saddle tree constructed according to my improvements; and
I cut, ciotherwise shape out of sheet-metal, pieces A of theform represented in the diagram, figll, and bend, stamp, or otherwise shape these pieces up into united to the piece B,1alsocut or otherwise formed from sheet-metal1 audi suitably stamped, the whole of the top portion of `thentrees for a side-saddle will be produced; i i y V V The part D of the said plate forms thescautel; E,thc
belly; F, the right horn; and G, the spring. 4 When these sheetsy are bent up into the required form, the
upper edge is wired, to prevent cutting .the leather, as shown at H, also to stiffen and retain the fornirequired. i n
The piece B, which forms the seat, after being suitably shaped to t the part A, is joined thereto on the line x x, tig.u 3, and secured by-riveting through it and astrip of leather, I. Y n n The part K of the piece B forms the upper side of theileft horn, which I propose to arrange so as to spring up from the tree, in a manner to have a concave form at the inner side where the thigh rests, better adapted to support the same with comfort than',
where they rise straight. y d
These parts, sofformed and united, are secured toth'e pads N in any preferred way, and enable me to make' saddle-trees of better shape and much cheaper n than as new Amade, giving the rider.
Having thus described my invention,
greater easeand comfort to I claim `as new, and desire to secure by Letters v Patente y 1. Theim proved sheet-metal blanks A B,eonstructed, shaped, and adapted as herein described, for employ- 'nient in the construction of side-saddle trees, substant-ially as specified. u
